Mary Desin Obituary
Mary graduated from Edinboro University with a degree in nursing. She later earned her Master's degree in Health Administration from Loyola University. She wore many hats at Hamot Hospital and later UPMC Hamot working for 39 years, and most recently as an admissions nurse.
She was an animal lover, especially of dogs. Mary was generous to a fault, always helping anyone that crossed her path. She loved that her job as a nurse allowed her to help anyone and everyone she could.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Desin in 2015; a brother, James Golubski; and a brother-in-law, Daniel Wysocki.
Survivors include her daughter, Laura Ortiz, husband Wilfredo of Erie; two sons, Matthew Desin, wife Kayli, of Uniontown, Ohio and James Desin of New York, New York; four grandchildren, Rosalie, Jordan, Damian, and Anthony; two sisters, Barbara Wysocki of Erie and Dolores Cline, husband Gerald, of Colville, Wash.; a brother, John Golubski, wife Janet, Brooklyn, Minn.; sister-in-law, Lois Bonniger of Erie; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dogs, Roxi and Dixie.
Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th St. Services will be held there Saturday at 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 12 noon at St. Luke Church, 421 East 38th St. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.

To the Desin family, my deepest condolences to all of you. I did not know Mary well, though, the times I did talk with her... she was a warm person. The world is worse without her in it. Her travels home with her husband will be safe and I believe she is happy by his side.

To the family of Mary, my sincerest sympathy. I worked with Mary many years in the Operating Room at Hamot. She was a wonderful nurse. I am so sorry for your loss. Mary was a most trusted coworker in the OR for many years.It was always a comfort to work along side her knowing that she had command of any situation that might arise and was a tremendous resource. As a nurse, she reinvented herself professionally many, many times over her long career.
However family was always first and we enjoyed many stories that mothers share while balancing family and career. She will be missed!

I can't even begin to find the words to express my sorrow upon hearing of the passing of your mother. My heart is heavy and saddened by your loss. Your mom and I were friends and colleagues at Hamot Medical Center in the Operating Room for many years. Those memories are priceless. I will never forget her. Her wonderful and gentle soul will remain in my heart forever. Right now I imagine her resting in peace in the arms of God and the angels. Take comfort in knowing that a very special angel will be watching over you and your families throughout your lives. Please accept my condolences and prayers.

Mary was my best friend in high school. Me and my husband introduced her to Joe a few years after we married. I didn't think they would make it beyond their first date but little did we know that the would be together for over 30 years! They were a perfect match for each other. I regret that we didn't stay in touch over the years but thought of them both often. She will surely be missed. Love you Mary! I hope we will be able to rekindle our friendship once we all make it to heaven!
