John Trostle Obituary

YORK SPRINGS John Jere Trostle (JT), 66, died from bladder cancer at his home in York Springs, with his wife, Dorothy (Zepp) Trostle, by his side. Born on January 3, 1949, in Dillsburg, he was the son of the late John and Esther Trostle. He graduated from Northern High School in 1967 where he participated in football, basketball, and track. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Army Reserves for seven years and also started working for PennDot District 8-0. He retired from PennDot after 37 years of service. JT, as he is known by family and friends, devoted his life to his family and helping others. His pride and joy was Griest Memorial Park in York Springs, where he spent countless hours making it a place of which to be proud. He was a member of the Griest Memorial Park Board and the Bermudian Jaycees. JT was also a member of the Hanover Area Parrot Heads, the York Springs Fire Co., and the Moose Lodge of Gettysburg. JT was known for his love of woodworking, cooking, doing lawn work, working the recycling center, and just making people happy. He would do anything asked of him by anyone. He believed in "partying with a purpose" and "that service to humanity is the best work of life". He always made people feel welcome and brought smiles to their faces. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Kere (Trostle) Washington and husband Martavis of Mount Holly Springs; and son, Jere Trostle and wife Krista of St. Marys; two sisters, Nancy (Trostle) Chenowith and husband Richard of Chesterland, Ohio, and Connie (Trostle) Moyer and husband Ilandis of Bellville; mother-in-law, Jane Zepp; brothers/sisters-in-law, Ron and Lynn (Felix) Zepp, Tammy (Zepp) and Tim Emeigh, Cindie (Zepp) and Lee Leer, all of York Springs, and John Zepp III and Tim Hirneisen of East Berlin; his three godchildren, Justin Zepp, Renee (Zepp) Knight, and Meghan Geary; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his adopted friends and family. With sorrow in our hearts, but also having wonderful memories, we say goodbye to a great man. A memorial service will be held at his church, Chestnut Grove Lutheran Church, 1136 Mountain Road, York Springs, Pa. on July 18, 2015, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. Refreshments and a celebration of life, as JT would want, will follow at Griest Memorial Park, 110 Town Hill Road, York Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Griest Memorial Community Park, Inc., P.O. Box 285, York Springs, PA, for the purchase of additional playground equipment for the park. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Inc.

Dottie and Family, Our sincere condolences go out to you and your family. We still talk about the days when we all stayed in Ocean City on the corner of Pennsylvania and JT showed us how to dig for clams and cook them. Those were the days . . .

I considered it a privilege and an honor to have known John. He could always make you laugh no matter what your day was going like. I will greatly miss his smile and sense of humor. We all could take a page from John's play book and be much better off for it ! My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends. God Bless
