Oliver Whipp Obituary

Oliver H. Whipp, 89, of Sandy Spring, MD, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.

He was the husband of over ten years to Patricia Camille Whipp.

Born on October 5, 1923, he was the son of the late Charles and Edna Cutsail Whipp.

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Margie Mae Whipp, in 2002. Oliver was the last surviving sibling in his family; predeceased by two brothers and three sisters: Charles Whipp, Wilbur Whipp, Martha Burkhardt, Thelma Harper, and Fern Godbee.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his only child, a daughter, Deanna Marie Brown and husband C. Robert "Bob" Brown, Sr., of Mt. Airy, MD; three grandchildren: Robyn Brown, of North Beach, MD; Charles "Chase" R. Brown, Jr. and wife Jennifer, of Trimble, MO; and Julie Brown of Middletown, MD; as well as seven great-grandchildren: Lisa Brown, Sarah Thorpe (and husband Matt), Scott Brown (and wife Larissa), Brittany Noon, Ryan Noon, Braden Brown, and Kaylee Brown. He will also be remembered by his grandson-in-law, Richard Noon.

Oliver was a charter member of Gaithersburg Church of the Nazarene, established in 1960. He dedicated his life, whole-heartedly, to the service of the Lord.

Mr. Whipp graduated from Frederick High School in 1941. He began working for the U.S. Department of the Interior at age 18. He later worked as a Deputy Tax Collector with the Internal Revenue Service until the end of World War II. He then took a position with Woodward & Lothrop as a Merchandise Manager. Finally, he held the position that would take him into retirement: Assistant Vice President of the National Bank of Washington.

Following retirement in 1985, he and Margie spent their winters in Florida. They were faithful members of an Airstream club at Paradise Park in Punta Gorda. Oliver enjoyed serving the Lord as church chairman for the park for 13 years. In 1997, home became Friends House Retirement Community in Sandy Spring, MD, where he has resided ever since.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. with visitation prior to the service, at Gaithersburg Church of the Nazarene, 8921 Warfield Rd., Gaithersburg, MD 20882.

Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD. Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to: Gaithersburg Church of the Nazarene, 8921 Warfield Rd., Gaithersburg, MD 20882.
