Helen Muir Cunningham "Sue" Dluz

Helen Dluz Obituary

HELEN "SUE" MUIR CUNNINGHAM DLUZ, 86, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2008 in Indianapolis. She was born to Charles H. Cunningham and Helen Muir Cunningham May 5, 1922 in Boston. As the daughter of an army colonel, she grew up living all over the country - but most of her childhood centered around her time in Owensboro, KY with her grandparents. Helen graduated Owensboro H.S in the Class of 1939, then as an RN from St Lukes Nursing Hospital in NYC in 1944. She served as a nurse in the Army from 1945 until honorably discharged in 1946. Helen married Peter M. Dluz in Greenwich, CT in 1950. They were fortunate to live for a few years with other veterans at Tod's Point, and later settled in Byram. Helen worked as a nurse for over 25 years, at Greenwich Hospital and at Putnam Weaver nursing home. Later, as a parent with grown children, she proudly earned her bachelor's degree from Mercy College. Helen Sue took great pleasure in camping, training flat-coat retrievers, and traveling across country visiting distant friends and relatives. She was a kind and generous lady who cared well for family, friends, patients, and animals of all kinds. She always made time for charitable causes and will be missed by many. Helen's husband, Peter Dluz, preceded her in death, as did her two brothers, Charles Cunningham and Robert Cunningham. Helen Sue is survived by her four children: Rion D'luz with Carolyn Angst D'luz (VT), Susan Dluz with Ken Gould (IN), Dyana Dluz (FL), and Teri Dluzneski (VT). Three grandsons will miss her in Indiana: Joshua, Benjamin and David. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm at Knapps Funeral Home on Friday October 10th, with a Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Byram at 9 am Saturday.
