Thomas Anischik Obituary

Thomas Joseph Anischik, 63, of Tolland, CT and Chatham, MA, passed away unexpectedly at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. Tom was born on June 26, 1957 and was raised in Chicopee, MA. He was the son of the late Joseph Edward and Lorraine Constance (Gwozdz) Anischik. Tom received an associate of science degree in turf management from Stockbridge School of Agriculture, a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a master's degree in business administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Tom worked at The Hartford Courant for 35 years, where he made life-long friends, and retired as Managing Director in 2017. During his time at The Courant, Tom served on the boards of Hartford's Camp Courant, The Connecticut Daily Newspaper Association, Riverfront Recapture, and New England Newspaper Operations Association. He was an avid Boston sports fan, and he was looking forward to spending his retirement years on Cape Cod, doing part-time consulting for the newspaper industry, and enjoying time on his Boston Whaler. His favorite pastimes were going on adventures with his daughter, and coaching and mentoring her through many athletic, scholastic and professional endeavors. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Kathryn (Plifka) Anischik, as well as his beloved daughter, Sarah Kristin Anischik, of Boston; his sisters, Debra Ann Anischik of Old Orchard Beach, ME and Cathleen Anischik Reid, and her husband, Christopher Reid of Holliston, MA; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 25th at Nickerson Funeral Home in Chatham from 10AM to 10:30 AM, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Chatham. Capacity is limited at funeral home and church. Social distancing and face masks will be enforced. A livestream of the Mass will be available at www.holyredeemerchatham.org. I was so sorry to read of Tom's passing in the Courant. I have fond memories of spring afternoons at the tennis courts. Tom was always so nice to Melissa and all the girls on the team

I’m so sorry to hear this very sad news. I knew Tom for many years, as I supplied the Courant with pressroom consumables with several different companies. Tom and I also shared stories of Tolland, where we both resided. My sincere condolences.

We are so saddened for your loss. We will always remember Tom's devotion to and love of Kathy and Sarah and, of course, we will never forget the many years of basketball fun. Tom was always right there with the "stomping crew" during high school games, the many pizza trips after games and always an avid participant with Sarah during her hoop career and in her life. HIs little, heartfelt gifts to Coach Lee over the years and his friendship will always be treasured. Tom, You will be missed.
