There are special times, which I'm sure your family has, when I think of Lowell - when I see an old barn I think he's photograph, when I pass by the Divinity School or find a picture of all of us sharing with laughter at an event. May your memories bring you comfort as we thank God for his time with us.

Dear Julie, I don't know if you will get to read this or not. I was going to contact Lowell and let him know that I just finished my spiritual austobiography and thought he might like to read it. I served under him for only a short time but was always grateful that I did. Always regarded him not just as a mentor but as a friend. He obviously led a life of profound service. My condolences. As a fellow classmate CRDS 1966, I never ceased to enjoy Lowell's (and Julie's) company - his bright and exploring mind and heart; and to follow his career as we took different paths. He is one of many people whose presence enriched me at the time ... and then whom I did not see again in person. Yet I followed him, and admire the way he lived his life as a clergy leader, a man, and a beloved spouse for so many faithful years. Cheers!

Julie,
Ed and I were shocked and saddened to learn of Lowells passing. I worked with him for 5 years and we became good friends. He, along with the a former president of CRCDS, encouraged me to date my husband and we have been married for 30 years. Lowell was a wonderful friend and mentor to me during our years working together. It was a privilege to call him my friend. He will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched.

Julie, my deepest sympathies to you on the death of your beloved husband and best friend. I always appreciated the moments when our paths would cross and we would shared delight at our occasionally overlapping journeys. I enjoyed reading this beautiful testament to Lowell's life, and I learned some new things along the way! You will be in my prayers in the hours, days, weeks, and months to come. May Comfort surround you and memories plant themselves right in your pocket for drawing on as you need them.

I am so sorry to read this. Lowell was a man of exceptional kindness (to a new, untried colleague) and integrity (we sometimes disagreed. It never changed our mutual respect) To a world seeking justice and beauty more urgently than ever, this is a tremendous loss. My heart is with Julie and all Lowell's marvelous family. I am grateful to have known him. As the friend who just shared this news wrote: May he rest in peace and rise in glory. Indeed. And amen.

Oh Julie, Jon and Sarah:
I'm so sorry to hear this news. Lowell was a tremendous leader, prophet, friend, companion, husband, father, mentor and so much more. I will long remember with fondness our time together in Hartford, and even his visits to Minnesota to visit Jon. He was a deep thinker, but a deeper care-er. He touched so many lives. I'm getting ready to take to the streets in Minneapolis with other clergy to combat racism. I imagine him right by my side. Love to you all,
Charlotte Massie

Dear Julie and the Fewster family:
Sandy joins me in sending you our most sincere condolences on the loss of Lowell. We remember so fondly meeting the both of you in the 60s when we all lived in Blue Hills area of Hartford. Lowell immediately became involved in helping work on many of the problems facing the area. He was insightful, helpful, and had a way of crystallizing the issues In order to better address the problems. We became good friends and I always valued his advice, his help, and his wisdom. Lowell always radiated a quiet calm but considerable strength and had a wonderful way of dealing and communicating with people.
I know words are often a little comfort at this time but I hope you and the family are comforted by the many warm and happy memories you have of him.
Again our deep regrets.
Most sincerely,
Howard and Sandy Klebanoff

I regret that I met Rev. Dr. Fewster only once--while he was up here in New Hampshire taking pictures of important barns and other agricultural buildings, some of which years later are included in the recently published book on the subject by John Porter and Francis Gilman. In that brief encounter I found him to be a most congenial individual and I was very impressed with the breadth of his life experiences, as the obituary in The Courant certainly attests. My best wishes to the Fewster family. Steve Taylor, Meriden, N.H.

Lowell practiced the justice he preached, as was well-suited to serve our multi-racial, multi-ethnic denomination. His prophetic voice will be sorely missed in these days when out nation needs moral leadership. I am thankful for his faithful leadership as a teacher, pastor, chaplain, and Executive Minister. His courage in facing cancer was inspirational. May your faith give you comfort and strength as you celebrate Lowell's life and mourn his passing.
