Larry Lambert Obituary

Larry Joe Lambert

Indianapolis - Larry Joe Lambert, 83 of Indianapolis, passed away December 7, 2020. Larry was born in Attica, Indiana on April 20, 1937, to Donald and Anna (Peters) Lambert. He was a graduate of Indiana State College and spent his career as an art teacher in Wayne Township and the Art Department Chairman at Ben Davis High School; he retired in 1995. Larry was a devoted husband, a loving, caring and honest father, a true friend, a grateful grandfather and a humble servant of God. Larry's devotion to God and his commitment to his community at Lynhurst Baptist Church always brought him joy and ultimately led him to work at the church as secretary. He was preceded in death by his wife, Macil and is survived by 2 sisters (Judy Urso and Sandy Shutt), 2 brothers (Vince McCartney and Michael McCartney), 2 children (Daniel Lambert and Dickie Lambert) and 4 grandchildren. Calling will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 from 10a-12p at Flanner Buchanan - Speedway, 2950 N. High School Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46224. The service will begin at 12:00pm. Larry was my teacher and more importantly, my friend. He helped me as a teenager immensely through his kindness and a true guiding hand in classes and in life. I am privileged to have known him and to have been able to be one of his assistants in High School for 2 years. Generous, kind and a great sense of humor. The world is a smaller place without him in it.

Mr. Lambert was a special person to me. I was a student in many of his art classes at BDHS. As a young person and student, I think that you are unaware of the subtle things that surround you at the time. It is not until you reach full maturation as an adult that you understand these things. Along with creativity and technique—some of the many overt things I learned in photograhy from him—here are some of those subtle things that I observed in Mr Lambert. Each day he modeled these things: love for people and especially his students, a robust laugh, great industrious energy, a listening ear, and a big heart. He attracted people to himself. I am saddened by the news of his passing, but I rejoice in knowing that he is home in heaven.

Condolences to Larry's family. Larry was a valued colleague at Ben Davis HS. A life well lived a career well spent. I remember him fondly from serving on committees together & as an outstanding educator. Warmest Regards, Pris Dillow, Retired Teacher, Athletic Director & Asst. Principal (currently in Melbourne, FL)
