Herman Sokolow

MARBLEHEAD -- SOKOLOW, Herman (Hank) of Marblehead passed away on April 28, 2020 after complications of Coronavirus. He was 90. Born in Dorchester, he was the son of William (Wolf) and Mary Sokolow, and brother of Saul. He graduated from Boston Latin, was a MASS state Tennis champ, served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. during the Korean War, and married Marilyn (Spack) of Lynn in 1953. As a resident of Lynn, he formed Lynn Industrial Caterers with his brother-in-law and served the workers of many Lynn factories. Hank, without the benefit of higher education, was a self-made man who created M&H Realty, which offered rentals and new construction throughout the North Shore. He resided most of his life in Marblehead. Hank and Marilyn enjoyed traveling throughout Europe in their early years, and later visiting Las Vegas, Foxwoods, and recently the Encore in Everett. Hank went out of his way to feed small animals, and always had a pet cat at home by his side. He enjoyed watching Boston Pops concerts, classic movies, musicals, and listening to talk radio. He was a member of the Jewish Community Center and Temple Emanuel of Marblehead. Hank gave charitably to Israel, many organizations and to individuals in need. He was appreciated for the wise advice he gave concerning money management and real estate. He enjoyed engaging with everyone he met in conversation, especially existential questions of G-d, humanity, and life's truths. He was passionate and curious and sought to experience all that life had to offer and often shared that exuberance with others. He is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn, whom he adored for 66 wonderful years of marriage. He leaves behind his children Jerry, Rich and his wife Michelle, Bill, and Pam and her husband Yosef Chaim Lester and daughters-in-law Yael Sokolow and Robin Panzer. He is cherished by his grandchildren, Karen, Adam, Amy, Janna, Anna, Yisroel Leib, Mendel, Lazer and Dovid. Service information: Herman Sokolow was laid to rest at Temple Emanuel Memorial Park in Danvers. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
