Cabell Braden Finch

Knoxville, TN

CABELL BRADEN FINCH died March 3, 2018 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Mary Tod Finch, son Cabell Braden Finch, Jr. and wife Karen, daughter, Katherine Finch Paine and husband Barth. Other survivors include grandsons, Braden and Bryce Finch, Michael Paine, and granddaughter Ava Paine. The family would like to thank his kind caregivers. He was a graduate of Webb School of California and University of Texas at El Paso, with a B.S. in metallurgical engineering. He served during the Korean War in the U.S. Airforce acting as a Russian translator in West Germany. After spending a year at Yale University, he accepted a staff position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He worked with crystal growth of transuranium elements. He was elected a Fellow of the American Mineralogical Society in 1981. He was an active member of Church of the Ascension, president of South Knoxville Rotary Club, and a volunteer for Mobile Meals.

Memorial service will be held 2pm on Thursday, April 12, at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. Interment to follow at Old Gray Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 800 Northshore Dr., Knoxville, TN, 37919, or to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be received at www.rosemortuary.com.
