Daniel Striepeke Obituary

October 8, 1930 - January 17, 2019 Variety Magazine called him "A mixture of psychologist and painter, sculptor and actor's best friend". A dear friend described him at 88 as "the youngest guy I know with the laughter and exuberance of a 14-year-old racing down a hill on a bicycle with complete abandon". Dan Striepeke (Stree-Peck) was indeed that as well as a writer, producer, conscientious negotiator for his union and peers, a veteran of the US Air Force, father of two sons, a loving husband, and a beloved friend and mentor to so many. And he was so much more than that. Encapsulating the arc of his life, the depth of his love, the authenticity of his personality, not to mention his revolutionary artistic achievements in the TV and motion picture industry into a standard obituary format, is near impossible. Nothing Dan did in his life was either standard or format. Born in Santa Rosa, CA, he came to Los Angeles at 19 to realize his dream of becoming a makeup artist. With a 60-year career (1956-2006 see www.IMDB.com) of working on Hollywood's most iconic faces and films that includes 2 Oscar nominations, a Life Achievement award, 2017 Oscar Legend in Makeup and 19 years as Tom Hanks personal makeup artist (see a tribute to Dan by Hanks in the NY Times The Man Who Aged Me) and the writer and producer of the 1973 sci-fi thriller, Sssssss. Dan lived his life by the edict "Do the thing you fear the most and the death of fear is certain." Full obit www.DanStriepeke.comDan is survived by his wife, Sherry Sexton, his sons, Dean and Chris, his brothers, Gilbert and Ed as well as so many loved ones whom he considered family. Service Tues 1/29/2018, 12:30 pm Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills. Donations: Cedars-Sinai Smidt Heart Inst. are welcome. http://bit.ly/DanStriepeke

Dear Striepeke family,

I'm so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to the family. May it bring you comfort in knowing that God keeps those who pass in his memory because they are precious to him. Psalms 116:15

His kind and generous wife, Sherry, is my cousin. Thanks to her we were fortunate enough to have known him and be included in fun times with the two of them which enriched our lives. Dan was charming, highly intelligent and had a beautiful, readily available smile that will never be forgotten. To briefly summarize Dan is to say: He embraced life and lived it to the fullest! We will miss him dearly. Judy & Gary
