Sally Amron Obituary

November 8, 1946 - January 11, 2021 Sally Amron was born on November 8, 1946, in Calcutta India, the first child of Michael and Moselle Amron. She came from Iraqi Jewish decent. Sally was educated in Darjeeling, India and England. She left India with her family in 1961, lived in England until 1963 at which time she immigrated on the Queen Mary to America. She settled in Los Angeles and graduated from Fairfax High School. Sally grew up in some of the most interesting and spiritual times – the cultural revolution of the 60s and 70s. She loved music, history, philosophy and the arts. She was beautiful, wise, had amazing grace, dignity, elegance, and the coolest style. She loved horseback riding, classical piano, dancing, and driving her green MG midget convertible. In the late 60s, Sally worked as a hair stylist. She later became a graphic designer. She married a Dutch coworker in 1974 and moved to Johannesburg South Africa for several years. Sally returned to Los Angeles in the late 1970s, divorced, and attended Pasadena Art Institute becoming a talented artist. In her mid-thirties, Sally began to withdraw into her own internal world and spent the next 4 decades living a challenging life in various care facilities. But, Sally was a strong person. At times, she retreated more internally and at other times would give the gift of connecting and sharing her loving, joyous spirit. It is said that a person's eyes are often the window to their soul. Sally had the most engaging eyes, and, her voice resonated and reflected the very beautiful person inside. She had unwavering integrity and a beautiful soul that in many ways transcended much of the mundane of this world. Sally died on January 11, 2021, from Covid-19. She is survived by her 100 year old father Michael, her brother David, sister-in-law Jessica and, her four nieces and nephews, Ariel, Benjamin, Abigail and Asher.

Photo is of the well known figurative artist Harry Carmean with Sally in the mid 1970's. Sally was his muse for a while and is featured in a number of etchings and paintings. (The etchings can be seen online.) Harry passed away last year but he always spoke highly of Sally - she was a lovely person and also a very talented artist and her presence on this planet will be missed.

Sally and I graduated in the same class from Fairfax High School. We were friendly in High School and stayed in communication for a number of years before we lost touch. Sally was a good friend and a great spirit. I am sorry to hear that she had such challenges in her life and that she succumbed to Covid-19. It is really odd that after not thinking about Sally for years she has been in my mind since the beginning of the year.
Condolences to her dad, Michael, and her family. Sally will live as a blessing to all who knew her.
