Stephen D. Treuer

August 3, 1954 - September 10, 2018 Stephen D. Treuer passed away on September 10, 2018 in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 64. The son of Warren and Joan Treuer, Steve was born on August 3rd, 1954 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and grew up in various locations around the world with siblings Philip and Susan Treuer. Steve received a Bachelor of Arts from Hampshire College in 1976, a Master of Arts in History from UC Berkeley in 1980 and a J.D. from the UC Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law in 1984. It was during graduate school at Berkeley that he met his future wife, DeDe Leshy. Steve and DeDe married and moved to Los Angeles where they had two children, Katherine and John. Steve practiced law for over 30 years and was Partner at Barbanel & Treuer, P.C. An accomplished triathlete, Steve found his passion outdoors swimming in the ocean and biking and running on roads and trails. He was a devoted husband and father and his passing left a huge gap in the lives of his family, friends, and colleagues. He is remembered for his loyalty, kindness, integrity, and intellect. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, DeDe, his two children Katherine and John, brother Philip, and sister Susan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to either Heal the Bay or the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
