Jansen Noyes, Jr., 86 year of age, passed away on March 16, 2004.

Beloved husband for 62 years of Dorothy, cherished father of Jansen III, Michael and predeceased daughters Dorothy and Karen, devoted grandfather of Jansen Noyes IV, Jennifer and Logan Brackett, loyal brother to Shirley Lathrop and predeceased Nancy Noyes King and Blancke Noyes.

Jansen graduated from Lawrenceville School in 1935, Cornell University in 1939 and attended Harvard Business School in 1940-1941. He served as a Lt. Commander in the United States Navy and saw active duty aboard cruisers and destroyers in the North Atlantic. He began his financial career at the firm founded by his father, Hemphill, Noyes & Co. in 1939 and became a partner in 1946. He was named Chairman of Hornblower, Weeks, Hemphill Noyes & Co. in 1968. He became Senior Managing Director of Loeb Rhoades Hornblower in 1975. Jansen was a founding Partner of Noyes Partners, Inc. in 1980 and was President until 2003. He was Chairman of Douglas, Noyes & Co. Inc. and a Director of Berkery, Noyes & Co. LLC.

Jansen was passionate about education and specifically about Cornell University. He devoted a substantial amount of his time to Cornell. He served on the Cornell Board of Trustees as a member (1961-84) as Vice Chairman (1968-78) and as the 11th Chairman of the Board of Trustees (1978-84). Jansen served on the Cornell Standing Committees of: Board Membership (1983-84), Board Nominating (1964-74) (1974-77), Executive (1962-84), Health Sciences (1977-80), Investment (1961-84). He was an Emeritus Chairman and a Presidential Councilor from 1984 to 2004.

Another passion was his fight to eradicate preventable blindness. Starting in 1946, Jansen worked with Helen Keller (as her personal trustee) and the organization she founded; Helen Keller International. He served as a Director for 50 years from 1946 until 1996. He was President from 1958-1970 and Chairman of the Board from 1970-1992. Additionally, he served as President and Trustee of the American Foundation for the Blind, President and Director of the American Foundation for Oversees Blind, Chairman of the Board of the National Industries for the Blind and as a Trustee of the National Society for the Prevention of Blindness. Jansen was also appointed to the office of the Committee of Purchases of Blind-Made Product and Services of the Blind and other Severely Handicapped by President Eisenhower on December 24, 1968, President Nixon on December 27, 1971 and by President Ford on January 10, 1977. I first met Jansen Noyes Jr. while working as a Benefits Administrator at Hornblower & Weeks, Hemphill-Noyes . In my first year with the Company (starting in November 1973), I did not know the Company history and that there had been a Jansen Noyes Sr involved with its creation. I made the mistake of sending an inter-office memo addressed to Jansen Noyes. I immediately received an indignant call from his secretary informing me that I had omitted the "Jr." I of course apologized and promised to never make that mistake again. At the Company Christmas party, I met Mr Noyes (Jr.), and personally apologized to him. He was very gracious and said that "It's my secretary who cares and that I don't take it seriously." In my conversation with Mr Noyes (Jr.), he made me feel like a valued member of the staff and, although I only met him once or twice after that, I considered him a down-to-earth person with real class.

I was inspired by him, and in my long career in Human Resources Management, always treated employees the way he treated me.
