Michael Foster Obituary

Michael Jack Foster Grand Ledge Michael Jack Foster died Sunday, February 27, 2011 in Lansing, Michigan following a long battle with lung disease. He was born October 5, 1946 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the son of Jack Pershing and Ione Dorothy (Wright) Foster. On September 30, 1967, he married Maryanna Thocker who survives him. Also surviving are two daughters and their families, Cara (Jeff) Wilks and children, Frances Ione, Michael Jack, and Estella Dorothea of Niles, Michigan; and Cary (Jeff) Anderson and children, Foster Michael, Mia Ione, and Jack David of Grand Ledge; sister, Susan Lawens of Grand Ledge; brother, Martin (Michelle) Foster of Lansing; brother-in-law, Montegue (Marlene) Thocker; sister-in-law, Gwen (Terry) Tisdale; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends. He was predeceased by both of his parents; infant brother, Steven Foster; and father and mother-in-law, Matthew and Clara Thocker. Michael graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in 1964, and attended Lansing Community College. He was a career cement mason and carpenter, retiring from the Lansing Board of Water & Light after 27 years service. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Lansing, Michigan. Michael was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He was a gifted carpenter and stained glass artist who also enjoyed fishing, MSU sports, and caring for his two dogs. But most of all, what brought him the greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow. The family wishes to express their special thanks to his physicians, Dr. Raymond Hansen and Dr. John Armstrong of Lansing; to those who guided Michael through his therapy at the Sparrow Respiratory Rehab; and for the recent loving care he received while in the I.C.U. at Sparrow Hospital as he waited for a lung transplant. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Plymouth Congregational Church, 2001 East Grand River, Lansing with Rev. Cousin Nancy Kandel and Rev. Joy A. Baumgartner officiating. Visitation will be Friday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw Street, Lansing, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to the American Lung Association, Capital Area Humane Society, or the charity of choice. The family is being served by Tiffany Funeral Home. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.tiffanyfuneralhome.com.

"A little putty, a little paint, makes a carpenter what he ain't" , just a little thing Mike taught me. I will forever rememeber Mike as one of the most likeable and enjoyable people I ever worked with or met otherwise. Tears of joy for having had the opportunity to know Mike, my life was better for it. My prayers for the entire Foster family during this difficult time.
