Stanley Owen Baxter, age 94, born on November 26, 1931, in Roxand Township, passed away on January 20, 2026.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lyle and Reva (Boyer) Baxter, sisters Norma Marshall and Carolee Hart, brothers Vaughn and Larry Baxter.
Stan is survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Pam (Nick) Napier, Doug (Lisa) Marshall, Linda Rosales, Michael Baxter, Julie (Jerry) Garner, Steve (Kristy) Baxter, Dale (Sue) Bassett, Todd Bassett, Chad (Megan) Bassett, Beth Aprill, several great nieces and nephews.
He attended Grand Ledge High School and Michigan State University. Shortley after college he entered the United States Army during the Korean conflict, and was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas with the 3rd Armor Division, where he successfully completed his training. However, his athletic abilities landed him in "Special Services", where he excelled in basketball and fast pitch softball, in which he was selected to represent Ft. Hood, in the 4th Army championship tournaments.
Stan completed his tour of duty in 1953, and headed back to Michigan where he was employed by Manufacturer's Bank (Comerica) in Detroit, and where he would spend the next 37 years, achieving a vice-president status with his office located in Grosse Pointe, MI.
It was also during this time that Stan began a new career in volunteerism and antiquing. Some of the accomplishments and achievements over the years are Board of Directors for the Optimist Club of Sterling Heights, Grand Ledge Senior Program and Board of Directors member, 24 years, Grand Ledge Senior of the year, 2000, Grand Ledge Unsung Hero of the Year, 2007. He was also a volunteer and member of the Board of Directors for the Grand Ledge Historical Society, Eaton Community Hospice, and volunteer of the year in 2006. Stan was awarded the Eaton County Heritage award, 2018, for his many years of service in the "Preservation of History".
Stan enjoyed many years of antiquing, which brough comradery with dealers and friends, and this passion lasted over 60 years.
