Dear Nancy,
I've had to take a few days to process your passing because the truth is that it's still difficult to accept that I can't just pop in to see you at Phoebe- with coffee of course! Our relationship was relatively short compared to the friendships you maintained with friends, neighbors, and co-workers that spanned decades! Those friendships spoke volumes about your character, and I personally observed how much these friends valued and respected you as we exchanged letters with Linda, Betty, and June on a regular basis. You had that same effectt on everyone who worked with you at Phoebe. You shared a special bond with your caregivers like Brenda, Loy, and Jessica who became like a part of your family and loved you like a part of theirs! Your presence here with us will be truly missed by many!
My brain is still thinking of adventures and field trips to share with you; while my heart is struggling to accept that you were at peace and ready to get off the tour bus and call it a great ride! Thank you so much for allowing me to share the last part of the journey with you. You gave Jay and I so many wonderful memories over the past few years that we will carry with us... until we meet again.
Nancy- you are truly one of the strongest women I know, and like a diamond became more beautiful under pressure! You were a child of the depression era and always knew the value of money. You lived through several major wars and kept your finger on the pulse of politics and world news. You earned a colllege degree in a time where many of your contemporaries didn't even graduate from high school. You were a working single mother of four kids when society was looking for women to all be June Cleaver. You survived breast cancer- twice!! Most recently, you worked your butt off to rehab after two different strokes! Only now as I look back on the pictures over the past three years can I see how much these strokes slowly robbed you of your functions. Yet, you NEVER complained nor looked for pity- you persevered!!! You gave one hell of a fight til the end!
I can't begin to tell you how much I truly appreciate the value of our time shared together. Jay and I were committed to giving you the best quality of life for as long as we were blessed to have you with us. However, the truth is, it was you who enriched our lives! We are both better people because of the time we spent with you. You gave us your wisdom that only comes through the experiences from a life well lived. You shared your favorite expressions like, Don't trouble trouble until trouble troubles you! You shared your passions for animals, art, movies, and country music with us... and now we both have Hank Williams on our Pandora thanks to you! The memories we made during our field trip, dinners, or afternoons on the patio are gifts that will stay with us forever... and will one day bring more smiles than tears.
Most of all, you taught us what inner strength really looks like. You taught us dignity and humility. Thank you, Nancy, for fighting so hard for so long! Thank you for your smile and the many wonderful Nancy faces that could speak volumes with the slight raising of an eyebrow! Thank you for allowing me to share this exciting journey with you and Jay! Thank you for being my confidante, my secret-keeper, my Nancy-pants and most of all... my friend! I love ❤ you!Until we meet again, Michelle

My deepest sympathy to Nancy's family. I enjoyed volunteering with Nancy at LVH Tree Top Shop. She was a delightful person, caring and sharp, with a dry wit.
May her memory be a blessing.

My deepest condolences to the family. I was blessed to work with Nancy for several years at the front desk of the old Holiday Inn where we shared many a laugh. We kept in touch through more than 35 years with Christmas cards and letters. She was one of those rare people who touched the heart and spirit of people who knew her. I know she will be missed.
