Harry Powers Obituary

Harry Powers
Oct. 28, 1927 - Dec. 3, 2018
Resident of San Jose
Harry Powers, a prolific artist whose work was shown in Europe, Australia and the United States spanning over half a century, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, December 3rd. Harry spent his boyhood summers camping and fishing in the wilderness of Idaho with his father. He grew up watching the night sky which stirred a life-long fascination with Astronomy and the cosmos which informed much of his work.
Harry earned an undergraduate degree from San Jose State College, now University, and earned a graduate degree in painting and art history from Stanford University. During his thirty year teaching tenure at San Jose State University he inspired students with interests close to his heart: music, light, ancient cultures. His art was joyous, a contemplative visual celebration of the best of the human experience. He is survived by his wife Lynn, and children, Murray and Kiki.
