JEFF PHELPS Obituary

PHELPS, Jeff Ashley, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama went to be with hisHeavenly Father on Monday,July 16, 2007. He was born inHale County on April 22, 1924.He proudly served his countyduring WWII as part of the European Theatre, 9th Infantry,where he was part of thelanding at Omaha Beach. Hefought in Belgium at the Battleof the Bulge and was in Dachau, Poland at wars end. Hewas a twenty-five year veteran of the Montgomery FireDepartment when he retiredas District Chief. After retirement, he was self-employedin commercial construction.He was an active member ofEastmont Baptist Churchwhere he served as deaconfor many years and was verydedicated to the MondayNight Visitation Ministry withhis good friends, Jack Gradwell and Bobby Carroll. Hisloving wife of 60 years, Dorothy Bearden Phelps, Montgomery, Alabama, twodaughters, Linda Phelps Hixand her husband William E.Hix of Prattville, Alabama,and Deborah Phelps-Whitehouse and her fiancT , PaulHarper of Wetumpka, Alabama, a granddaughter, Stephanie Hix-Randall and herhusband Bo Randall, great-granddaughter, HaydenElizabeth Gambacurta andmany loving friends survivehim. His parents, three brothers, two sisters and his faithfuldog of 20 years, Friday, predeceased him. Services willbe held Wednesday, July 18,2007 at 2pm with The Rev. RoyMooneyham and Rev. MikeNorthcutt officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 17,2007 from 5-7pm. Pallbearerswill be Charlie Sconyers, JohnDavis, Earl Mills, Bo Randall,Marlion Tillery and VernonReynolds. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of theMills/Brown Sunday SchoolClass and Jim Bowden. Flowers are appreciated or youmay make a memorial gift inhis honor to Eastmont BaptistChurch kitchen fund. Thefamily would like to thank thekind staff of Wiregrass Hospice for their caring help atthis time.Leak-Memory ChapelDirecting
