NOYES E LEECH Noyes E Leech, age 88, died at his apartment in Wesley Enhanced Living at Stapely Manor, 6300 Greene Street, Philadelphia on Thursday, July 1, 2010. He resided there for 6 years. Born on August 1, 1921 in Ambler, Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Charles Sherman and Margaret ( Reid ) Leech. He spent his lifetime in the Philadelphia area, residing in Germantown for many years. He was a 1939 graduate of Lower Merion High School and a 1943 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1948 and passed the Pennsylvania Bar Exam in 1949. Noyes was an associate at the law firm of Dechert. Price & Rhoads from 1948 to 1949 and again from 1951 to 1953. He joined the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1949.: became a Ferdinand Wakeman Professor in 1957; a Hubbell Professor of Law in 1978; and a William A. Scnader Professor of Law 1985; before retiring in 1986. He was a Professor Emeritus from 1986 until his death. He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Germantown and a member of COIF chapter of Phi Betta Kappa fraternity. Noyes was the co-author: The International Legal System, third edition in 1988 and general editor: Journal of Comparative Business & Capital Market Law from 1978 to 1986. He played in the Chestnut Hill Orchestra for many years and also was a member of the Glenside V.F.W. marching band. He served in the US Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant with the 619th Army Air Force Band. Noyes traveled extensively with his family and further afield with an international teaching faculty, including trips to Russia, Japan and Brazil. A friend once said, "Noyes was a kind and faithful man". Surviving are his wife, the former Louise Gallagher, with whom he celebrated his 56th wedding anniversary on April 14, 2010. Also surviving are two daughters: Katharine L., wife of Scott Galliher, Brooklyn , NY and Gwyneth L., wife of David C. Wilson, New York City, NY; two Granddaughters: Megan Louise Wilson and Grace Elizabeth Wilson, New York City, NY; and a brother, William David Leech, Knoxville, Tenn. Graveside services will be held on Thursday July 8, 2010 at 3 pm in Old Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsberg. The Rev. Gordon E. Smith, Pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Espy will officiate. There will be no viewing. Military honors will be provided by the combined VFW group. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W.
