Alma Jeanne Powell Stanford, 82, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in San Angelo, Texas. Alma was born on November 15, 1942, in Gainesville, Texas to Gregg Brooks Powell and Maurice Williams Powell. Alma graduated from San Angelo Central High School and was a parishioner at the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart in San Angelo. Alma married Jerry "Squasher" Stanford in San Angelo on April 23, 1976. They enjoyed life together to the fullest until Jerry’s passing in September 2005. Alma worked for many years for Wells Fargo Bank. She was a good neighbor, cherished friend, and devoted wife. Alma lovingly served as a mother and grandmother to numerous children along her journey, all benefiting from and enjoying their time with Alma.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, as well as many dear friends. She is survived by her niece, Marka Baird of The Colony; dear family friends, Jimmy and Barby Nobles and family of San Angelo; special sons, Grant and Jenni Cline and family of Stephenville and Cain and Donna Cline and family of San Angelo; special cousins Tommy and Deb Long of China Spring; as well as, several other dear cousins and numerous friends.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the Shive Cemetery in Hamilton County, Texas.
The family requests that memorials be made to a charity of your choice or a local hospice service. Alma will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
