Ann Perkins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 21, 2018.

Glenda Ann Perkins passed away at the age of sixty-four on Friday, May 18, 2018, as a tragic victim of the Santa Fe High School shooting in Santa Fe, Texas. She was born in Galveston, Texas, on November 11, 1953, being the only child of Raymond Earl Brown and Lena Mae Lanigan. She graduated from Ball High School, Galveston, Texas, and attended the University of Houston.

Ann married Stephen Douglas "Steve" Perkins of San Antonio, Texas, on September 30, 1989, in Galveston, Texas, and she and Steve made their home in nearby Santa Fe, Texas.

Ann was preceded in death by her father Raymond Earl Brown and her half-brother, Bobby G. Brown. She is survived by her mother, Lena Mae Brown; husband, Steve Perkins; daughter Kimberly Ann Hattendorf and her husband, John Dwayne Hattendorf, II, Arlington, Texas; son Ballinger Jonathan "BJ" Broeker, Katy, Texas; daughter Ashley Ann Perkins, Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Aubin Haack Hattendorf and Ava Elizabeth Hattendorf; and numerous cousins and other extended family.

Ann was a permanent substitute teacher at Santa Fe High School. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church and Trinity Episcopal Church both located in Galveston, Texas. She was also a member of The Red Hat Society, Tutu Live Krewe-Mardi Gras and very involved with the Santa Fe School District.

Ann enjoyed painting, shopping, traveling and especially visiting with family and friends over good food paired with a great glass of wine. She loved her home town of Galveston and cherished time spent with family sailing around the Caribbean and any time spent on a beach. She also truly loved her "family" of students, faculty at Santa Fe High School and her special friends– Gale Devona, Roni Ryan, Janet Catching and Teresa Weishuhn.

The Perkins family would like to thank the Forest Park East Funeral Home, the Red Cross, J. Maisel's Mainland Floral, H-E-B Grocery and the community of Santa Fe for all of their support and generosity.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Galveston Historical Foundation (www.galvestonhistory.org).
