Anthony DiGuardi Obituary

Anthony ""Tony"" DiGuardi, Jr., age 94, of New Orleans, was called by our Lord to His heavenly home on Monday, May 1, 2017. He was the loving husband for 73 years of the late Marion Madona DiGuardi; father of Cheryl Varnado (Paul), Toni Brousse (Greg), and the late Trudy Cusimano (Noel); grandfather of Stacey (Jonnie), P.J. (Tara), Sarah (Vito), Matthew (Gabi), Gregory, Katie, and the late Brandi; and the great-grandfather of Marie, Staci, Brandon, Brett, Shawn, Alex, Cameron, Gianna, Vito, and Killian. He was the brother of the late Philip DiGuardi and Angelina Heine; half-brother of Rosemary Cortez; son of the late Anthony DiGuardi, Sr. and Marguerite DiGuardi, and step-son of Mary DiGuardi. He is remembered and loved by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Known for his unique ability to befriend anyone, Tony will be remembered for his quick wit and love of his family. He enjoyed recounting old stories, playing a game of cards, and betting the horses. He was an avid golfer and a veteran of the United States Army Air Forces in his younger years. His strong Catholic faith was ever present; he served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and was a proud member of St. Maria Goretti's Holy Name Society Glee Club. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Masses are preferred.

Hey Dad,

I am so sad as I write your farewell message, but I know in my heart that you are finally at peace. I thank God that your earthly suffering has come to an end. I know you were a man of strong faith and I gain comfort knowing that you are finally home with Mom, your adoring wife of 73 years. I am certain Mom, Trudy, Brandi, your parents, and Nannie are happy to see you. Our earthly loss is surely their heavenly gain. Dad, you taught me so many important life lessons and through those memories, I promise to keep you alive. Sleep in heavenly peace, my beautiful angel. I love you Ant Knee and already am missing you so much!

Your loving daughter, namesake, and carbon copy, Toni

My sincere condolences to the family for the loss of your loved one. May prayers strengthen you and memories comfort you, and may our Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father, who loves us, comfort your hearts and "make you firm". (2 Thessalonians 2:16, 17)

Toni,
Your dad was a character and I always enjoyed talking with him. And he was a fighter and a survivor who led a full life, and obviously loved his family very much. A lot like my dad. He's not left us, he's only left his earthly body and ascended to heaven to be with your mom. But he still walks among us, and lives in our memories. And no more pain and suffering. If he could say just one thing now I think it would be: miss me and remember me, but let me go, and live your lives to fullest.

Your Mom and Dad were wonderful people, and had that Italian spice! I am glad that you know they are joyous together in Heaven. We suffer when someone dies. The beloved are in a perfect place. My prayers are with you and your family.
