Molene “Lena” Gamble Higginbotham, 84, of Waxahachie, was called home on September 28, 2025.

Services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Robbie Ashlock of Family Life Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Lena was born on October 13, 1940, to Bill and Lillie (Burleson) Lewis in Beckham County, Oklahoma. As a child, her family lived in many farming communities, including Roaring Springs, Flomot and Tulia. She married Joe Gamble on July 16, 1959. Together they raised two children, Joel, born in 1960 and Brenda, born in 1962. In 1984, they moved from Tulia to Amarillo, where she worked at BSA Hospital and later in a private medical practice. After Joe’s passing in 2001, she married Carl Higginbotham. After retiring, her and Carl moved to Waxahachie, Texas to be near her daughter.

Music was a big part of Lena’s life. She spent many hours playing and singing country and gospel music. She loved going to nursing facilities and entertaining the residents.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Joe; her second husband, Carl; three brothers; five sisters; and her son, Joel.

Survivors include her daughter Brenda Dunn and husband Donald, of Waxahachie, TX; a sister, Dorothy Kincaid, of Maypearl, TX; grandchildren, Stephanie Woodward, Matthew Dunn, Alex Gamble, Evan Gamble, Lillie Gamble, and Jenna Betzen; and eight great-grandchildren.
