Bradenton, Florida -
Barbara Anne Dunne, age 81, of Bradenton, FL, passed away on June 16, 2023. Barbara was born in Bridgeport, CT on December 30, 1941. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1960. Barbara received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Emmanuel College in Boston and a Masters in Education from Lesley University in Boston. As an educator, Barbara taught for 31 years in Pittsfield. There she was active on many committees as well as a member of the bargaining unit for the P.T.A. She also worked part time as an organizer for the Mass Teachers Association; and enjoyed her time working for the Pittsfield Teachers Credit Union. Upon retiring to Bradenton, Barb enjoyed her time planting flowers, volunteering at Mote Marine Laboratory as well as being an active member of The Bishop Museum and Marie Selby Gardens. She is survived by Kathryn J. Dohoney whom she was able to marry on June 5, 2015. They were together for 56 years. Barbara is survived by her brother, Thomas Dunne and wife, Laura, their two sons; Corey, wife, Joanna and children; Matthew and Olivia; and another son, Ryan, wife, Ashley, and children; Emilia and Harrison; cousin, Judy Graves of Hampton, Georgia; nephew, Christopher and wife, Christine, daughters; Quinn and Paige of Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Manatee Food Bank, mealsonwheelsplus.org. Barbara was under the services of Home Instead who were both kind and considerate to her especially Barbara Napali. No Services are scheduled at this time.

Dear Kay, I´m so sorry about Barbara. Even though my kids never had her for a teacher, I know she was an excellent teacher and a wonderful person. So sad for you. My best to you.

Oh Dear Kay. We are going to miss Barb so much upon our return to Florida. Bob especially misses her on the gardening committee. We were so pleased to spend so much time with her before we left in May. Our sincere condolences.

Miss Dunne was my sons favorite teacher, so very sorry to hear of her passing. Our family's condolences to miss Dahoney another favorite teacher, and the family. Always remember them coming to my home for an end of year celebration with the kids, precious memories

Kay, I am saddened to read of Barbara's death. It sure was a pleasure to work with two top notch educators.
I will always remember the sign that Barbara had at the front of her classroom: KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

Barb was a dynamo. She was an outstanding teacher and an astute leader for teachers and the advancement of the teaching profession. She and Kay were my mentors. I´m so very glad I got to visit last February.
