Barbara Ann Canipe McRee

April 16, 1933 - May 12, 2025

Barbara was the fourth child of Charlie Cletus Canipe and Zula Mae Mull Canipe. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Mildred Whitner and Inez Reed; and her brother, Charles Warren Canipe. She was also predeceased by her husband, George Clifford McRee; and son Norris Gerald McRee (sons Matthew and wife Amy of Los Angeles, Ca. and Kevin McRee and wife Lacy and children, Emory LeBlanc and Simon LeBlanc of Hickory, NC.). Barbara is survived by her son, The Rev. Timothy McRee of Canton, NC; his children are Erin McRee (husband Derek Marx and son Thomas Marx) of Weaverville, NC. ;and son Daniel McRee (husband David Weaver) of Wallowa, Or. She is also survived by her daughter, Laurie Carter (husband Lonnie N. Carter) of Georgetown, Sc.; daughter, Emily Harrison (husband D. J Harrison; and son, Loy Harrison) of Charlotte, NC.; daughter, Sarah Schumann (husband Dr. Jairus Schumann and Children Teddy and Ruth Ann Schumann) of Charleston, SC and son Jacob Carter (wife Logan and sons Jack and Lane Carter) of Moncks Corner, SC.; and her son, Mark McRee (wife Maureen, son Connor McRee and his son, Waylon McRee and Patrick McRee) of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving is her beloved nephew, Robert Reed (wife Debbie Reed) of Hickory, NC. and many other nieces and nephews.

Barbara was a 1951 graduate of Hickory High School and a retiree of Abernathy Laurels Retirement Community. She retired as the Unit Manager of the Healthcare Unit. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. A devoted disciple of her Lord Jesus Christ. She served the congregation of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ in Newton as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon, Elder and member of the Consistory. She was a volunteer at the Corner Table in Newton and served 10 years as a Cub Scout Den Mother at First United Methodist Church in Hickory.

Barbara loved art, music, drawing, composing poetry and flowers. She brought much love, beauty and joy into this world and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorials can be made to The Corner Table Ministry and Grace Reformed UCC, both in Newton.

Barbara's celebration of life will take place Monday, May 26 at Grace Reformed UCC, Newton NC. The family will receive at 1:00pm in the Family Hall with the service at 2:00pm in the Sanctuary. Officiants for the service are Pastor Ryan Brakemeyer and Reverend Michael Cogsdale. The burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Hickory on Tuesday the 27th at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers for Barbara are her grandsons, Matthew McRee, Kevin McRee, Daniel McRee, Jacob Carter, Connor McRee and Patrick McRee.
