Carl Knerem Obituary

Carl Henry Knerem, 74, of Wilton Manors, Florida and Provincetown Massachusetts past into God's hands on April 16, 2017 following a 30 year battle with diabetes and heart disease. Born in Cleveland Ohio, Carl lived in Wilton Manors FL for the past three years and also had a 30 year residence in both Provincetown Massachusetts and Providence Rhode Island with his partner. Prior to retiring in 2003, Carl was Resident Services Manager for Avalon Bay Communities in Providence Rhode Island for 10 years after retiring from 20 years in the jewelry industry where he was Sales Manager for Eli Metal Products. Never one to have grass growing under his feet, Carl held several progressively responsible positions in the hospitality industry and fashion clothing fields having started his career in 1966 as a fashion merchandiser for JCPenney. In addition Carl was co-owner in the disco era of a prominent Cleveland nightclub. He is perhaps best known as the maître d' for Marius of Cleveland and as the Assistant General Manager of Stouffers John Q restaurant. Carl was A member of the First Baptist Church in America in Providence RI for 31 years where he also served a term as Chairman of their music committee. Carl was a known as an advocate in the HIV AIDS Community since the 1980s and was well-known and respected collector of fine arts. Carl was a 1965 graduate of Ohio State University and had been a ballroom dance champion in the 1970's. Carl is preceded in death by his father Walter, his mother Pearl and his brother Dennis Zika. He is survived by his partner of 38 years, Dr Thomas Matt of Berlin. Arrangements by The Neptune Society of Pompano Beach, FL. Internment will be private. Donations in Carl's name may be made to The Pride Center. 2040 N. Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors FL 33305.
