Clarence BENNETT Obituary

BENNETT,
Clarence
Allen

3/23/1936 - 10/06/2012

Clarence Bennett was born in Benson, Minnesota on March 23, 1936. His family and friends are mourning his passing on October 6, 2012. He was a loving husband, caring father, protective brother, supportive uncle and loyal friend to many. Clarence was compassionate to all animals and spoiled his pet dogs. When Clarence was around, you felt like nothing could go wrong. He was a level headed, patient, generous man of few words. When he offered advice or guidance it was given with equal amounts of encouragement. Through actions, more often than words, he made sure you knew why he was grateful to know you. His appreciation for you was clear and it was that uplifting, joyful personality that will be missed most. Clarence was an Army veteran and retired from Triangle Truck Co. in Spokane. He was part of the Dixon Neidrigger Bennett racing team and raced across many states and Canada throughout the 1950s and 60s; he even held the national record for a short time. He was an avid racing fan and he and his wife Barbara traveled the country to see races. When not traveling to a race, they were sure to be following the sport on TV. They spent every winter in Arizona. Clarence was known as a transmission building "master" to many in Spokane and throughout the country. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence A. Bennett Sr. and Emily A. Bennett; and his sisters, Maye Perkins and Bonnie Bennett. Clarence is survived by his wife, Barbara Bennett; children, Janelle Lee (John) and John Gunsaulis (Molly); and sister-in-law, Sally Dauenhauer. Clarence is also survived by his sisters, Lucille Davis-Spokane, WA, Mabel Jones-Tacoma, WA, Janice Johnson-Great Falls, MT, Nancy Howe-Newport, WA; and his brothers, David Bennett-Spokane, WA, Steven Bennett-Spokane, WA; and many special nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to name. A memorial reception will be held on Sunday October 14th at Center Place in the Spokane Valley from 2-4pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Union Gospel Mission.

I was saddened and shocked to hear of JR's passing. JR was a man that touched the lives of many. I will always cherish the times that I spend with him growing up. Thank you for all those Friday evening trips to Mary Lou's for huckleberry and bubble gum ice cream, swimming at your sister's house and always making sure that the Henjum girls were invited over to color and hunt for Easter eggs every year. Barbara and the Bennett family, words can't express how sorry I am for your loss. Thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

October 10, 2012

Barbara, and the Bennett family, I am so sorry for your loss. I still can't believe he is gone.Jr was not only a mentor to me but he was one of my very best friends. He will be missed very much.I worked with Jr for 16 years at triangle. He taught me the main thing in this business is to take care of the customer. There are so many different stories and things that happened there, it is hard to remember all of them. We shared many good times and some bad, but we always got through them, they will be always cherished in my heart. Jr I could go on and on with things we did over the years, but they will have to wait till we meet again. Love ya, your friend Steve Henjum and family.

JR......I will always cherish the gift of being in your life, of knowing you and being the unaware recipient of your patient and vast knowledge of teaching me without "teaching" me during our years at Triangle. I will always hold close that last huge smile and hug just 2 weeks ago.....We will
miss you always and remember forever! Race on my friend.....
