I've known Dave most of my life and can honestly say he was one of the most genuine, brightest, compassionate, helpful guys I've come across. And if he was your friend you 'KNEW' it. I've also enjoyed competing with him or against him in several sports, shared experiences on the lakes, playing cards, clubbing and was a business partner with Dave and Kelly Jones in the JTH corporation.
Dave's achievements in business are unmatched by most, but his humble approach and willingness to see others succeed is a characteristic I admired most in him. What he has done for (many) thousands of people may go unnoticed, but it warms my heart to know how his legacy will live on and to know him (simply) as my friend.
Our loss is God's gain, and I can only hope I get the opportunity to cross paths with him again someday. Rest in Peace my Friend.

I first met Dave when I moved to Fort Wayne in the 3rd grade at Queen of Angels Elementary. No matter how high he climbed the corporate ladder he never forgot his friends. I was his tax advisor his financial advisor and most importantly his friend. He often teased me by saying that if he had hired a better financial advisor he would have already retired. We would laugh about that because like Warren Buffet or Steve Jobs I don't think he ever would have ever retired. Dave, Tom Topp and I had a standing lunch date every Wednesday. We talked about us still getting together for lunch as three old curmudgeons in our late 80's trying to solve the world's problems. As it turns out just 2 days prior to Dave falling into a coma and eventually dying the three of us were at lunch. I was on my way to two weeks in Florida so as I was leaving, I said, "see you boys in two weeks" and Dave replied, "have a great time and we'll be here when you get back". Little did the three of us know. God had a different plan for him. There will always be a hole in my heart missing my friend. God speed my friend and I hope to see you again one day!

Dave and I started in the mailroom together at Navistar in 1978. Many great memories there, the Elks CC, and later in life as my client. RIP Dave!
