Denver Sizemore Obituary

Denver Sizemore March 23, 1925 - October 31, 2008 COLUMBUS, GA — Maj. (Ret) Denver Sizemore, 83, of Columbus, GA. died Friday, October 31, 2008 at his home. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2008 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with Reverend Mickey Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 noon till service time at the funeral home. Maj. Sizemore was born in Roark, KY. on March 23, 1925, son of the late B.C. Sizemore and Melinda Thomas Sizemore.  He attended Piney Grove Baptist Church in Harris County where he lived for many years before moving to Columbus. He retired from the U.S. Army having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict and was awarded several medals which include 3 Bronze Star Medals , the World War II Victory Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge and he earned his Senior Pilot Wings for both Rotary and Fixed Wing aircraft. After his military career he served as a Sales Manager for Top Value Enterprises until his retirement.  Maj. Sizemore served as past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club in Titusville, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Angela E. "Lois" Sizemore of Columbus, GA., a son, Denvir A. "Bud" Sizemore and his wife Jan of Birmingham, AL. and a daughter, Melinda D. Russell and her husband Robert of Smyrna, TN., a brother, Boston Sizemore and his wife Ava of Ellerslie, GA. seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA. 31909.
