Dexter O. Rasmussen

YORK Dexter O. Rasmussen, 81, passed away Friday, November 19, 2010, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Born December 6, 1928, in Montevidio, Minn., he was son of the late Leonard O. and Alice (Birkebak) Rasmussen. Dexter was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served his country for 6 years during WWII and the Korean War. He was a graduate of St. Cloud College in Minnesota and retired from the Social Security Administration after many years of service. Dexter was an avid bowler and proudly achieved a perfect 300 game. In addition, he loved golfing and got a hole-in-one. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Annella (Lahr) Rasmussen; two sons, Leonard Rasmussen and wife, Debra Jo, of Navarre, Fla., and David Rasmussen and wife, Nicole, of Canada; five daughters, Carol and husband, Terry Bledsoe, of Kapolei, Hawaii, Vicki Palm of Warwick, R.I., Ann and husband, James Smokonich of Pittsburgh, Susan Joslyn of York, and Helen Rasmussen, also of Pittsburgh; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Wayne Palm, who passed away in March 2003. A private burial with military honors will be held at a later date.The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the nurses and aides at Colonial Manor for their overwhelming care, prayers, and support.
