Doris J.
Doris J. Newman, 84, a lifelong south Toledoan, passed away on March 8, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was born to John and Ruth Amstutz on November 16, 1929, in Toledo. She was a graduate of Libbey High School. Doris married Glenn Newman in 1950 and he survives her. Also surviving are her 5 children, Glenda Cannella, Shelley (Jon) Hoag, Gaye (Ron) Harbauer, Glenn Jr. (Amy) and Gary (Lori) Newman; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, John Amstutz, and sister, Carol Hardy.
Doris was a loving and self-giving wife and mother. She served her family with boundless energy, made friends easily everywhere she went, be it in the neighborhood or Hawaii, and was an excellent cook and baker. She was a longtime member of First Alliance Church.
Family and friends may call at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, on Wednesday, March 12th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with funeral services at 1p.m. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The family requests that memorials be in the form of contributions to First Alliance Church, 2201 Monroe St., 43604 or to Toledo Christian School.
