Gerald Vick Obituary
Mr. Vick was born in Rome on April 4, 1940, the son of the late James H. Vick, Sr., and Ruby Jones Vick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James H. Vick, Jr.
Mr. Vick was a graduate of Darlington School and Auburn University and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rome.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Janice Gaskin Vick, to whom he was married December 15, 1962; one son, Gerald Jones Vick. Jr., (Katie), Jasper, AL; one daughter, Ann Howard Vick, Rome; five grandchildren, Richard Charles Cross, Jacksonville, Al, Aaron Nathaniel Vick, Jacksonville, AL, Hannah Sofia Vick-Cortina, Rome, Gerald Jones Vick, III, Jasper, AL, and Samantha Carol Vick, Jasper, AL; one brother, John David Vick (Diane), Tampa, FL; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service was held Thursday, March 14, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Rome, with Dr. Joel Snider officiating. The family received friends in the sanctuary following the service.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Stan Self, Dr. Robert Cates and John Winget.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to a favorite charity.

Janice, we are just heart-broken about Jerry. What a wonderful person!. Mary Will just called and did not know until today. On behalf of both of us, we send our sincere love and support for you and your family. Please let us know if we can do anything. You and he were my Christmas Angels this past year and made sure I had something on my door. I cannot thank y'all enough and know Jerry is smiling on us, the same way he did on this earth. We love you!

May the Lord Jesus give you peace and comfort through precious memories at this time. I met Mr. Vick (Jerry as he always asked I call him) and Mrs. Ruby at Vitality where I worked. He (they) was a always kind and represented Christ and His love for all well! I am honored to have met him. God bless you Mrs. Vick.

Janice,
I hate that I wasn't able to attend the funeral or visitation yesterday, but I want you to know that you were in my thoughts and prayers nonetheless and will be in the weeks and months to come.
As you know, Ruby was a dear friend of mine, and there were times when I stopped by the house to visit with her and wound up spending time with Jerry as well. On one of those visits, he showed my son Taylor all of his Civil War memorabilia. On another, he shared his pet bird with us. He was very sweet to take such time with a little boy he barely knew.
I can totally picture in my mind the sight of Ruby standing at the gates of Heaven waiting to welcome him in and take him to see his dad and brother Jim. Don't you just know she was dancing when she saw him coming? What a party they must all be having!

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I have always thought so highly of you and Jerry. You and he have always been 2 of my favorite people. Y'all have always been so good to me as well as Paul. Thank you for all y'all have done. If I can ever do anything for you, please don't hesitate to ask. Mrs. Vick, You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. You have Always been a favorite of mine and You had a big impression on me as a par excellent teacher! You and your husband, Jerry, always made us feel comfortable and at home when we visited you for club meetings and other school related gatherings in the 1960s and I will always be grateful for all I learned from you. It is so hard for me to think you and Jerry had been married over 50 years! My, how time flies! I remember when y'all had no children and Ann Howard was born! Now Jerry is with God and we hopefully will be blessed with the opportunity to meet our loved ones again in Heaven! I love you and will keep your needs in my prayers. Janice, God has called home one of the dearest friends I ever had. You and your family are in my prayers during this time of sorrow. My age and health prevent me from being there with you.
