Herbert Leshinsky Obituary

LESHINSKY, HERBERT
age 93, passed away Monday, April 26, 2021. Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Max and Bessie (Bornstein) Leshinsky. He spent his golden years in Providence, and previously lived in Mexico, Australia, South Africa, England, Argentina, Columbia, Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico.
He served in the United States Army in Japan in 1946. Herb graduated from Providence College in 1952 and earned his Master's degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI in 1961.
Herb worked for Chrysler Corporation for nearly 30 years where he was the vice president of the international division in Latin America until 1980. He then transitioned to academia and worked at the University of St. Thomas. In 1983, he became director of the Master's Program in International Management until retiring in 1996.
Herb was a lover of the Boston Red Sox and was always happy to talk about the team and their players. He was a regular at Gregg's restaurants where he would ask for hot, hot tea while he sat with his granddaughters, son, and daughter-in-law on Saturdays after temple. He was a regular member in the congregation at Temple Emanu-El. Of all things in this world – more than ice cream and the Red Sox, Herb was most proud of his granddaughters. He enjoyed singing as Rebecca played the violin ("Are You Sleeping" was a favorite) and was always up for a trip to Garden City to take Hannah (his Hannie) shopping for dresses.
He is survived by his son Michael Leshinsky and his wife Amy, beloved granddaughters Rebecca and Hannah Leshinsky, and "that good looking dog" Oreo (known to him as Éclair). He was the brother of the late Albert Leshinsky, Ida Smith, and Rose Leshinsky.
Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Temple Emanu-El in Providence, RI. For information and condolences, please visit www.sugarmansinai.com.

Herb and I are cousins and have been friends for over 80 years.
We spent many of our early years working out together at the Fall River Boy's Club. College. military and career building made it difficult to spend a lot of time together but we always stayed in touch over time.
A better friend, a kinder person would be difficult to find. He truly was a "stand out" human being. I will miss him and wIl never forget him.

Herb was a mensch in every sense of the word. And my dad, Morty Paige, could not have asked for a better friend. Although I have not had the pleasure of meeting Herb’s granddaughters I know how proud and excited he was to become a Zayde. Herb was humble, caring and loved Judaism. He had a Good Name!! Rest In Peace dear Herb. Robin Paige Polishook

Herb was an extra special man, who loved and cared for my dad Morty Paige more than any friend could ever do. He also made sure I always had a place to work out in Providence, often as his guest at the JCC. A man with a heart as big as the moon - we’ll miss you, Herb.
