Howdy was a great friend many years ago when I lived and worked in Lansing, Michigan. I shall never forget what a kind and spirited friend he was. We had a particularly memorable time during a record snow storm. A huge meat truck driver promised us a huge steak if we could get his truck moved from in front of the YMCA Hotel in Lansing. We couldn't budge it, but he gave us the steak anyway, and we enjoyed it! I shall never forget how Howdy could tell a story. I only wish I had lived closer so I could have enjoyed his friendship and his being such a unique person. Farewell, Howdy. My condolences to to his wife, Sue, and the entire family.

Howard was a wonderful neighbor and he will be deeply missed. He consistently looked for ways to help our family-surprising us by plowing our snow-covered driveway, lending us his trailer several times, opening up his compost pile to us as well as to many other people, and many other acts of kindness that will not be forgotten. -Graham family

I am so sorry for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" (Isaiah 61:1, 2) sustain your family during this challenging time. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy.

I was privileged to serve our community with Howard on WABF. He had a confidence that was to be emulated, a respect that we should all strive for, and a heart for public service that is hard to duplicate.

We are better for had having him in our lives.

Howard was a good neighbor to us. We will miss seeing him driving his tractor, moving his compost piles and creating a haven for the deer to play in. We appreciate all the winters he dug our driveway out after the snow storms and stopping in for some coffee to see how we were doing. We will certainly miss Howard around this neighborhood.

Howard helped a number of people in this community that were in need. Howard found jobs, housing and donated his time and money to helping these people. Howard performed these good works without ever trying to draw attention to his good deeds. Howard and his unselfish acts will definitely be missed in the Williamston community. Rest in peace

Howard was known to me, from our childhood, as Howdy. He was like a younger brother who always liked to be around our shared family-fun times. Our parents were such close friends and we shared many mutual dinners as well as play times and parties. His life was a reflection of where he came from and his wonderful parents who raised him. They will welcome him into their arms. You will be missed. Love to all

I met Howard the day my son was married twenty years ago. Eric and Howard had worked together as police officers in Williamston, and although a few years had passed since they worked together, Howard, showing true friendship, traveled to Millersburg Michigan to attend the wedding. I was impressed by this act of friendship at the time, and wondered if I would ever run into this man again. Fifteen or so years later I moved to Haslett and was surprised when one day Howard appeared at my front door. We had several such visits after that which gave me the opportunity to find out what an amazing person he was. My family will miss him but the memories of his kindness, integrity and service to his fellow man live on. Thank you, Howard.
