James Samuel Kent

James Samuel Kent, born on August 27, 1941, in LaGrange, Georgia, departed this world on October 19, 2025, leaving an indelible mark upon the hearts of those who cherished him. His life's journey was adorned with labor and love, most notably through his dedicated service at Mount Vernon Mills in Tallassee, where he diligently worked for over 35 years. James also spent significant time as a painter alongside his dear friend, Mike Lumpkin—a partnership that not only showcased his artistic flair but also fostered a bond that transcended the confines of work.

A man of simple joys, James reveled in the serenity of fishing and found excitement in watching football, moments that brought him peace and camaraderie in equal measure. His passion for life was exemplified in the way he treasured his family, a commitment that stands as one of his proudest accomplishments.

James was married for 27 wonderful years to his beloved wife, Nancy H. Kent. Together, they navigated the ebbs and flows of life, creating a sanctuary of love and support for their family. He is survived by his three sons—Christopher Bishop, Terry Bishop (Florence), and Joshua Bishop (Kelsey)—a testament to his legacy as a devoted father. In the embrace of his sister, Joyce Harris (Thomas), James shared familial bonds that were further enriched by the laughter and joy of grandchildren, Hank Kent (Kayla), Kirstan Bishop, Carmen Bishop, Lila Bishop and Vada Bishop, along with several great-grandchildren, who filled his days with boundless affection. Not to be forgotten, his loyal friend, Shiloh, stood beside him, a beacon of companionship and loyalty.

James's absence is deeply felt by his immediate family, but it is also poignantly marked by the memory of those he has lost, including his parents, Arthur and Bertha S. Kent; his son, Shane Kent, and his brothers, Richard Kent and Walter Kent, as well as his sisters, Opal Ransom and Sarah Thrift. They remain in the hearts of those who grieve his passing.

A gathering to honor James Samuel Kent's life will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Jeffcoat Funeral Home in Tallassee, where friends and family may come together from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM for a memorial gathering. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM, a fitting tribute to a man who lived with an admirable spirit and love for his family.
