I have only known Jane for about the last three years. I would usually just pop down to say HI to her when I was visiting Leslie, but sometimes I would go to sit with her for a while and I would read to her and we would chat.
Every time I would see her, her face would light up and she would treat me like a long-time friend, so happy to see me, so accepting and loving.
I loved her energy that she expressed through her smile and eyes even though she was bed-bound!!

Dear Jane,
My first memory of meeting you was in 1966, when Leslie and I were in the 9th grade at Nimitz Jr. High School. When Les and I discovered that we lived on the same street with only a brand new apartment complex being built between us, it was very easy and fun to become fast friends!
My wonderful relationship with the Dawson family had begun...
You and Mr. Dawson were always so kind to invite me to go on weekend trips to Lake Hubbard, where you introduced me to Smoked Oysters on Ritz Crackers, how to eat a sandwich with mustard NOT mayo, stargazing until the wee hours of the morning.
Your infectious humor and dry wit knew no bounds! I loved being with all of you because y'all reminded me of my own family.
In a nutshell, you made me feel like I had been adopted in spite of myself!!!
I always felt loved and safe with you, and for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart...
Flash forward to the '70's...
Even after graduation and marriage, I was still drawn to your wise counsel and profound knowledge of "life"!
When I would visit, unannounced, at your office at Ford Motor Credit Union, you ALWAYS welcomed me with both arms as if you had been expecting me!
As I shared with you my private struggles and disillusionment, your words of wisdom were always the same...
"Just be who you are and everything will be okay."
When you were the manager at the savings and loan, you reached out to me when you found out I needed a job. Remember that? I sure do!
You did not hesitate to offer me a job, which I gladly accepted!
Working for you and with your team, once again, I "knew" I was exactly where I was supposed to be...
Other than my parents, you were always my "constant" when I needed help...
I have always known that you would accept and love me no matter what...
Because of my deep love and affection for you, I will tell you what I have always told my momma...
"When I grow up, I want to be just like you!"
I can see you and Mom in Heaven right now, laughing, rejoicing, dancing, singing, praising our Savior for the many blessings He bestowed upon you while you were on this side of Heaven...
I can see Mr. Dawson sitting with my dad in a fishing boat. (Catch and release only!) Jesus is with them. They are having the most awesome adventure together as they laugh at each other's jokes and enjoy everything that His Kingdom is!
Save us a place... We will be there at our appointed time...
Until then, just know that I love you and appreciate and adore the beautiful memories a girl from Odessa could ever wish to have!!!
In Christ,

WE BONDED OVER BACON
I was introduced to Jane almost 4 years ago when her daughter, Leslie, invited me into their home as an occasional Caregiver to help with her Mom. This quickly became a 2-3x per week opportunity to be with Jane, help with her care, and spend time with her - and when you spend up to 10 hours per week with a person - you can´t help but get to know each other on some level.
By this time in Jane´s life, she was bed bound, and any activities and shenanigans we could dream up were pretty much confined to her room. Those first few months when we were just getting to know one another, beyond helping with her care, I remember frying up pounds and pounds of bacon for her to enjoy as the mood struck. We certainly bonded over our mutual love of bacon (which most bacon-lovers know is in its very own food group!)
I loved Jane´s sense of humor - so easily she laughed and appreciated my attempts at being funny. Jane was a kind and gentle soul. Always appreciative of any help she received, yet never demanding. We grew close, even in our quiet times of just being in the same room or reading quietly - and oh, how Jane loved to read her newspaper and her mysteries!
We talked; we laughed; we shared our lives; and we watched TV - lots of animal shows for Jane loved animals (...and flowers and all things living!) And we watched mysteries. I know we both lost track of how many times we binge-watched Longmire until it was taken off the air!
Then there were those times when I witnessed pure joy on Jane´s face:
o On her birthday when we gifted her with a purring, meowing, RoboKitty.
o The time I brought my new 4-week old (real) kitty for a visit.
o And of course, when her first great-grand-daughter was welcomed into the family and blessed with Jane´s name - Ruby Jane - what a legacy!
o All visitors were welcomed by Jane with her excitement and sweet smile!
As time went on, I watched and witnessed Jane growing weaker, sleeping more and becoming less interested in those things she loved. Her strength and concentration seemed to fizzle away including her time spent reading her many books!
As her interests and loves in things of this world began to wane, Jane´s wish to go Home grew louder. To see those gone before - and oh, to see Jesus! So, we spoke of Heaven with no pain, no tears, no sorrow or struggle and how close she was to taking that final journey!
And now, Jane´s days here on earth have ended and I can picture her in that heavenly mansion, cooking bacon for all, in that city where the roses never fade!

Jane and I met when I walked my dog through the neighborhood and saw her on the side porch of her home feeding her outside cats. We struck up a conversation and over time became good friends through our mutual love of our pets. I adopted one of her cats when she moved to Colorado and have her still as a living reminder of our friendship.

It was Jane´s love of animals that brought us together. We lived in the same neighborhood in San Angelo, TX. I routinely walked my dogs in that neighborhood, and first chatted with Jane on one of those walks. She was on her front porch accompanied by a tiny Shih Tzu and a Pomeranian. Little did I know that I would one day adopt the Shih Tzu. When Jane decided to move to Colorado Springs some years later, I adopted the little Shih Tzu , Bailey, and loved cared for her. It was Bailey that joined Jane and me, as I sent her updates on how Bailey was doing.
I will remember Jane as a strong, interesting woman who had a special love for her pets. I only wish I had met her sooner. She will forever be a cherished friend.

My family moved to Odessa when I was in the fifth grade. We moved into a house on 10th St.. The Dawsons lived two doors away from us. Leslie was in the fourth grade and I was a fifth grade grader. We became best friends immediately. My memory of Jane is that she was the beautiful and very social. She went to the beauty shop weekly and her hair was always perfect. She often had on high heels, and her makeup was always done. She was always interested in what we were doing.
She had an impact on many people. My brother shared his story. She was instrumental in him getting his first loan to build houses when he was about 20. Another neighborhood friend shared a story very similar. Debbie Huff told me that Jane was the reason she got her first job. Jane helped her get her first job . She got a bank job with Jane´s recommendation. Great stories and grapes memories. She will truly be missed.

I was friends with Leslie and my parents spent a lot of time with Sid and Jane back in Odessa during the 50's and 60's. Our parents had a lot of fun! It's so interesting to read about Jane and what all she did throughout her life. What a force!! I know she will be missed and I'm so impressed that Jane was taken care of by her family until the very end. The ultimate gift of love. Bev Leibee

Me& my family grew up with the Dawson family in the 60s 2 houses apart in Odessa we knew Leslie & Bobby well , in fact my sister Pam considers Leslie her best friend . I was learning house construction at 19 yrs old & at 22 , 3 yrs later I built my first house , simply put Jane Dawson was instrumental in it for she was the savings & loan presidents personal executive secretary & influenced him to give me a loan to build my first 2 houses , I have always known this, I went on to-be a home builder for over 40 yrs I´ll always will be indebted to Jane for doing that for me. What a great Lady

When my wife passed away, I was looking for something to keep me busy. I heard there was a bridge group at the senior center. One Friday afternoon in March 2019, I walked into the senior center. I looked around and realized I knew no one. From the side of me I heard a voice. "Do you need a bridge partner"? That is how I first met Jane Warren. For the next two years she would always hold a place for me to start the bridge afternoon. Covid put an end to that in the spring of 2021. The Center stopped most activities. To thank Jane for being so kind to me, I invited her out to dinner. Over time this became a weekly affair where we shared our life experiences. When Jane had a medical event in 2022, she was bed bound. Her daughter Leslie was kind enough to invite me to visit on Wednesday night. If I needed help, Tim was there for me. Leslie would have dinner served while I visited with Jane. Later I also visited on Sunday´s and shared the Village Seven Presbyterian sermon and my church´s sermon with Jane. My medical conditions terminated my visits a few months ago. Leslie kept me up to date on Jane´s condition. Many times when I would visit, Jane would tell me she was ready to meet Jesus. When I heard of her passing, it reminded me of one of the Apostle John´s writings in the Book of Revelation when he describes the New Jerusalem.
"He will wipe away every tear from there eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away". I know Jane is experiencing the New Jerusalem.

How adored was Jane! Knowing her for the life she lived with Leslie and Tim, she was a beautiful, kind, and loving woman. She saw more than just people, she sought out their souls - She knew each person by name and always remained so tenderhearted, eager to learn, and still excited about the things she loved throughout her older age.
Jane had a meaningful love for her family. Her love for her family was set apart, special, and demonstrated how important it is to love those closest to you.
Leslie and Tim have the testimony of Jane´s sweetness, having loved her and homing her. Leslie & Tim, I continue to praise God for His work in your lives, for His many sustaining comforts in Jane´s life. God is good and above all He is steadfast in endless love for those who weep- Jane knew this in her heart... How good He is to bring her home after a long and full life. I remain in prayer for Leslie and Tim, the rest of Jane´s family.
