Joann Hawley Ammerman

Peoria - Joann passed away peacefully on February 19, 2021 in Peoria, AZ, she was 88 years old. She was born on February 10, 1933 in Warsaw, Indiana. The Hawley family moved to Dover, Colorado then to Phoenix, Arizona. Joann attended Kenilworth Elementary (in Phoenix) through the 8th grade. Joann attended Phoenix Union High School (in Phoenix). Her activities while she was growing up included Expression Lessons from Olga Rogers at the Phoenix Little Theater and Rainbow Girls. She enjoyed being in plays. Joann enjoyed very much being part of these organizations; Eastern Star and the League of Women Voters. Joann married Harry Ammerman while he was in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Luke Air Force Base. Joann and Harry lived in Tempe, Arizona while attending A.S.U. their son Paul Ammerman was born in Glendale, Arizona. They moved to West Lafayette, Indiana while Harry obtained a PhD at Purdue University. Harry's work took them to El Paso, Texas and Yuma, Arizona. Joann taught High School in Yuma, Arizona at Kofa and then Chibola. After retiring from teaching Joann moved to Sun City, Arizona and lived in an assisted living home. Joann is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse E. Hawley and Pauline Estep Osborn and her only child, Paul H. Ammerman who died in 2010. Joann is survived by her former daughter in-law Linda (Tom) Gray, her two grandsons, Jake and Joe Ammerman and her 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Janet 3 nephews, Cameron, Lance and York and their wives and children. Funeral will take place April 5, 2021 at 11:00 am at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 719 N 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85009
