Joanne Ehrlich Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Joanne C. Ehrlich (Hope), 80, on December 27, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Joanne was born on May 29, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois to Elsie (Johnsen) and Torbjorn Hope, owner of Hope Construction Company. She grew up in River Forest and spent many summers in Norway, Minnesota and Denver visiting relatives. She attended Frances Willard Elementary and Oak Park High School establishing lifelong friendships including her most treasured friendship with Donna Sloan. She continued her education focusing on art at the University of Colorado Boulder. She was proud to be a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. It was at CU that she met the love of her life, her husband Michael L. Ehrlich. In Boulder, they started their family as Michael completed his law degree. The family then moved to Centennial, CO. Joanne was active in the community and enjoyed everything about being a mother supporting all of her daughters’ endeavors.

Joanne was elegant, loving and compassionate. She devoted her life to her family and touched the lives of all who knew her. A loving daughter, mother, devoted wife, cherished grandma ma, and loyal friend, she will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, caring advice, encouragement and boundless creativity. Our mother was a woman of many talents; an artist, and an exceptional cook who loved hosting and entertaining family and friends. She loved books, storytelling, traveling and her poodles. Above all, her greatest joy came from nurturing her family and ensuring that those around her felt loved and cared for.

Joanne was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael L. Ehrlich, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage, and by her parents, Elsie C. Hope (Johnsen) and Torbjorn O. Hope, and sister Nancy R. Hope. Joanne is survived by her daughters, Jennifer “Romy” (Rick) Thomas of Centennial, CO, Michelle “Missy” (Warren) Gest of Toms River, NJ, and her four grandchildren, McKenzie Thomas, Madison Thomas, Fletcher Gest and Spencer Gest. They were the light of her life!

Her warmth, infectious smile, and wise counsel were gifts she shared freely, leaving a lasting impact on all who were blessed to know her. In her final years, she faced challenges with courage and grace, teaching us all the power of hope, faith, and love. Our mother’s spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. We take comfort in knowing that she is at peace and reunited with those who passed before her.

You will be deeply missed and forever cherished! We love you a “Bushel and a Peck!”
