John and I were friends growing up together. Later he baptized my son and he became my (koumbaros). His persona is missed. JoAnn passed recently and now they are together again.

No idea why tonight brings up this memory, but here it is. At my father's memorial in Dayton -2012- I was doing OK before the service seeing family and friends. Then, I saw John who had kindly driven down from Columbus. Seeing my dear old pal somehow just triggered letting go of my feelings.I think it must have been how seeing him reminded me of the wonderful life we all had growing up and the deep importance of my friendship with John although we had rarely seen each other as my practice was in Portland. We had stayed in touch, but seeing him reminded me of what really counts in our lives-family and friends. John was always both in every sense to me and many others. i miss our conversations. John and I grew up together in the Dayton View neighborhood. We were altar boys and members of the choir at church. We rode together to Wright State University and we both wound up at The Ohio State University. Life long friend and I miss him still. His humor was contagious. He is missed. I wonder what he would say now to make us laugh.

Time and our lives go by, faster and faster it seems. Many of our older memories fade as the years blur the details of our friends and the things we did together. Kind and loving thoughts of John have an enduring power because he was such a fine fellow. Looking back it is just not possible to think of him without putting a huge grin on one's face. John not only was, but is a gem. I miss the many times we would just out of the blue chat. Sometimes, in a John type situation, it feels like he is telling me what he thinks. It never was just a whisper, was it? Fortunately. Larry Sokol

John was a one of a kind lifelong pal the kind you are lucky to have even one of. Everyone who knew him loved and respected him. Really. He somehow knew everything that was going on in his circle of friends. He made sure you knew he was there for you and he was. Smart funny and insightful. I miss him often. So sorry to hear news of John's death from law colleage Jeff McClelland this morning at eviction court in Columbus. I have many fond memories of discussing cases and clients with John over the years. We had mutual admiration for each other and respected our professional goal to help solve people's problems that benefitted both them and society at large. He was a true gentleman and scholar. I will miss him, but will always remember his friendship. Bernie Brush

John was a dear friend since elementary school. He was the kind of a pal you would lucky to have just a few of in a lifetime. No one could tell a better story and it seemed that John knew everything that was happening in the lives of his friends. He was a warm and loving man and a true friend to all who were fortunate enough to know him. Larry Sokol

Joanne, My deepest sympathy. May his memory be eternal. John and I go back to kids in Dayton; altar boys, church choir, Greek school, baptisms, and weddings. He was more than a friend, like a brother separated by only distance. He was wonderful and very fun to be with. He could light up a room with his humor. He will be missed.

I am so sadden by the loss of my good friend and law school classmate, John. We stayed friends and in contact over the years. He had an engaging way about him no matter how any case or life event may have turned out. He reminded all of us how important family and friendships are and will be missed by so many of us.

Mrs. Stamatakos,

So sorry to hear about John. He and I have worked side by side off and on for the past few years. My memory will always be of a man that was an excellent researcher and understood the true Letters of Law. Very fun to be around and always treated me with respect. He has helped me in more ways that I could ever count. I truly appreciated him and respected him. May God truly keep you & your family warm and provide comfort during this time. I will never forget my friend John.
