Joseph Kucklick Obituary

KUCKLICK Captain Joseph F. Kucklick passed away peacefully at home on May 6, 2017 following an extended illness. Joe grew up in Olmstead Falls, Ohio. He graduated from Bowling Green State University and later attended law school at Western State University in San Diego, CA. Joe served in the military for 6 years during which time he was an Army Pilot and had 3 tours in Vietnam. In 1969, he was hired by Eastern Airlines where he began his commercial aviation career. In 1976, Joe met his wife JoAnn, who was a flight attendant, the love of his life and his best friend. He was with Eastern until their demise in 1990. Joe flew many different aircraft during his career, his favorite being the L1011. During his tenure with Eastern, he and JoAnn lived in Miami and Merritt Island, Florida but spent a good deal of time in Utah and Colorado, where Joe had a land development company. Joe was a gifted athlete and sports played a major role throughout his life. He developed a love for golf at an early age, caddying at Columbia Hills Country Club in Cleveland. As a child, Joe was a competitive equestrian and played many sports. In high school he played basketball and football and was offered scholarships for both. He chose to play football for Bowling Green where he was also on the tennis and diving teams. In the military, he played handball and golf and was on the rifle team. While working for Eastern, Joe became an expert snow skier and was on Eastern's racing team, competing with other airlines all over the world. In 1997, Joe and JoAnn moved to Jacksonville. Joe retired and kept very busy with outside activities, particularly golf. He loved living at Deercreek and entertaining the many wonderful friends he made there. Joe will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His beautiful smile, sense of humor and zest for life will be in our hearts forever. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; daughter, Stephanie Guerrero; grandchildren, Ivy and Liam Guerrero; numerous nephews and nieces, and his beloved pets, Stinky and Clancy. Special Thanks to: Otilia Cruz for her loving care during Joe's illness; Dr. Choisser for his support and medical expertise; Martin Sanguinette, massage therapist and special friend; and, our team at Community Hospice and Vitas. A Celebration of Joe's Life with full military honors will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16 at Deercreek Country Club, 7816 Mc Laurin Rd. N. Jacksonville, FL 32256. The family asks that any donations be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32257. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32223, www.hgmandarin.com, 904-288-0025.

Dear Joanne, 31December2017

I just heard of Joe's passing from a dear friend of mine who had the extreme pleasure of knowing Joe from the first day in training at EAL. He, Denny and myself were all in that class and quickly became close friends. That same day the 3 of us went To the Springs Towers Apartments on 36th Street and made arrangements to live together. What a wonderful time that was. Joe was a grand story teller and a TRUE friend...one of a kind...I knew you for a short time and
knew how close you and Joe were. I am terribly sorry I lost touch with you and Joe and the wonderful times that were spent with him. God bless you and Joe's memory. He was truly my brother and I will miss him dearly....Love from Capt. Bob Ramsay and wife Melanie in Marietta, GA

I read of Joe's death in the EARA newspaper. As a flight attendant I flew with him many times and he was one of the pilots you remember for the right reasons. He was a good guy- -friendly, easy to be around and he stood up for his crew. I'm sure he is greatly missed.

I remember meeting you and Joe eating diner or playing golf at Deercreek Country Club. Y'all were a striking couple. JoAnn, you were so beautiful and still are today. Joe was a dashing handsome man. Social events with y'all were special. Joe was such a talented man, playing the piano or playing golf. You and Joe had such a beautiful love story. Joe will truly be missed.

Dear JoAnn:
Having you all as our neighbors for several years here in Merritt Island brings back many happy memories. We laughed, sang, had meals together, hung out in your hot tub and always looked out for each other, as neighbors. We will always remember our good times together and hoping that you know that you took such good care of him as his partner and very devoted wife.

May 15, 2017

My dear JoAnn,
I am at a loss for what to say that will give you some measure of comfort. It is a relief that Joe is now free of his physical limitations and illness. He was such a physical person and he always took such good care of his body. This disease was cruel punishment. His release must be a joy for Joe.
I hold you close to my heart and will anxiously wait for a time we can be reunited.
I love you,
Susie (JoAnn's sister)

My dear JoAnn, Joe is not trapped in his body anymore. I am relieved his and your ordeal is over. I am holding you close in my heart wishing I could be of more support. Joe has been a part of our lives for a very long time. He loved his life with you and he absolutely adored you. He was your biggest cheerleader. Joe had the most enthusiasm for living life with abandonment and it was contagious. I will carefully tend and cherish my memories of him. Much love, Susie

Joe was larger than life and lived life to the fullest. He and JoAnn were truly a dynamic duo giving love and support to each other in every endeavor over their years together. Their devotion to each other endured through Joe's illness when JoAnn spared nothing to care for and comfort him.
His loss creates a massive void.

Jan and I met Joe in 2003. We became instant friends. Together with his wife JoAnn, Jan and I shared many wonderful fun filled days and nights with them both.
Joe was quite modest in his achievements in life. He never bragged about any of his accomplishments and there were quite a few. He was the ultimate "hero", always had a wonderful smile and was generous to a fault.
We filled his house with guitars and amplifiers, microphones, cables, keyboards and even a small xylophone. He loved it and never once did he say "hold it down".
Jan and I will miss Joe and the friendship we had. God Bless you Joe Kucklick and the joy you brought to so many people who's lives you touched.
Rest in peace Joe.

Scott and I have had the pleasure of knowing Joe and JoAnn since 1996, over 20 years! Joe's smile lit up a room, his sense of humor would have you rolling in the aisles and his zest for life was second to none. Joe was a tough guy but put a kitty in his arms and he turned to butter! Joe will be forever in our hearts. He is now free to fly and soar in the sky, an angel watching over his soul-mate, best friend and loving wife, JoAnn. We have been enriched by being able to call Joe a friend. We love you Joe. GO GATORS!
