Joseph Jake Messina (Barber), aged 67, passed away October 9, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Cynthia Messina, sons, Joseph Jr. (Micheli) and James, grandchildren, Justin and Hailie.
Visitation and Rosary will be Tuesday, October 22, 4:00 pm, at Brookside Funeral Home Cypress, 9149 Hwy 6 N., Houston, TX 77095. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, October 23, at 11:00 am, at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Community, 11507 Huffmeister Rd., Houston, TX 77065, with reception after at the Church. Committal Service will be at 3:00 pm, at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023.

Joe was my barber for 47 years. I started going to him when he was in the Rummell Creek shopping center next to the old Weingarten when I was just a kid. Even living in Sugar Land all these years, I'd take the trip up to the shop at Kirkwood & I-10 to see him. He'd always ask how the family was doing and we'd talk about old times and all the other barbers that had come and gone over those years. I even brought my kids to him a years back before they moved on.
I was going to go get my haircut today but for some strange reason, I felt compelled to check the obits and I saw this. My heart just sank. My condolences to his wife Cynthia and his children and great grandchildren. I didn't know you...but I knew you.

I was so sorry to see the note of Joe´s passing. I just saw the news today. Joe cut my hair for over 10 years. I always enjoyed visiting with him while I was in the chair. He will be missed. Prayers for his family.

I was very sorry to see the note that Joe had passed. He had cut my hair for over 15 years. We talked barbecue almost every time I was in and I appreciated his insights. I´ll miss him and will pray for his family.

We were very saddened to learn of Joe´s passing. He had cut my husband´s hair for more than twenty years. And during The bad Covid time, I talked him into trimming my hair too. Scared him, but just a straight cut. He did a perfect job and I was grateful.

So sorry to hear Joe passed away. He cut my hair for over 15 years.
We spoke of our Italian heritage and cucuzza. I remember he gave me some cucuzza that he grew.
I went to his shop to get my hair cut last Wednesday and the shop was strangely closed. It really worried me.
I pray for his wife and family. May he rest in peace.
