Leo Madden Obituary

REHOBOTH - Madden, Leo, 84, of Peck Street, Rehoboth, Massachusetts, died Monday afternoon, October 31, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Joan L. (Glanvill) Madden. Born in County Roscommon, Ireland, a son of the late Francis L. and Bridget (McHugh) Madden, he arrived in the United States in 1954 and lived in Providence and Pawtucket before moving to Rehoboth sixteen years ago.
Leo was a chemical plant operator for the Ciba Geigy Chemical Company for twenty-one years, and later worked for the City of Pawtucket Parks & Recreation Department for fifteen years before retiring in 2001. During those years, he also co-owned the Blarney Stone Pub in Pawtucket, was a founding member of the Ireland 32 Society, and a member of the Irish Ceiildhe Club of Rhode Island. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, horse racing and dog racing.
He was a faithful communicant of Saint Mary Church, Pawtucket. Proud of his Irish roots and heritage, Leo instilled the importance of enjoying family, friends, music and heritage not only to his family but to those he surrounded himself with. He truly enjoyed life.
He leaves a son, Brian F. Madden and his wife Cathy; three daughters, Kellie A. Duphily and her husband Tom, Noreen M. Strayer and her husband Brian and Brenda P. Tartaglia; a sister, Bridget "Myra" Gillen; two brothers, Edward "Eamon" Madden, Michael "Mickey" Madden; and nine loving grandchildren, Alan, Raeanne, Kyle, Connor, Emily, Nathan, Benjamin Rebecca and Haley. He was a brother of the late Patrick Madden and Kevin Madden.
The funeral will be held Friday, at 8:30 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Mary Church, 103 Pine Street, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours Thursday, 3:00 - 7:00 pm.
