Margaret Irene Brubaker McLoud, born Sept. 19, 1919 in Hammond, Indiana passed away April 7, 2013 at a nursing home in Pasadena, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years William Lee McLoud; parents Myrtle and James Brubaker, two sisters Helen Holley and Thelma LePage.
Survived by daughter Peggy Sue Mills and husband Richard, Brother Jimmy Brubaker.
She was the daughter of one of the first settlers in Pasadena and lived on a Strawberry Farm.
Margaret graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1937, where she was a member of the Black Battalion, the first all girls Drum and Bugle Corp in the United States. Margaret played the "Eyes of Texas" for President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
She married William Lee McLoud on Jan. 1, 1939. Living in Laredo with her husband during World War II, she worked in the ammunition depot, taking guns apart, cleaning and reassembling.
She retired from F.W. Woolworth in 1980. Margaret was a room mother for many years, Brownie and Girl Scout leader, window designer and decorator for W. T. Grants and F.W. Woolworth, seamstress, poet, gardener, craftsman, daughter, wife and mother.
Thanks to Dr. Robert Haden for his care and compassion, and the staff of St. Lukes Patients Hospital.
Visitation: Pasadena Funeral Chapel April 9, 2013 Tuesday evening from 6-8Pm;
Graveside Services Wednesday April 10 will be held at 10AM at Forest ParkLawndale:
