Marguerite Downing Obituary

Marguerite (Peggy) Downing

Marguerite (Peggy) Downing passed away October 26th. She was born Marguerite Louise Hayland on November 17, 1924 in Seattle. Peggy lived most of her life in Seattle and Shoreline. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert; her son Douglas Downing (Lori), and her daughter Marlys Chandler (Neil). She graduated from the University of Washington and taught high school English. Her ambition was to be a writer, and later when she left her job to be a stay at home mom, she wrote for Sunday School papers, selling over 150 stories. She also had several children's books published, 2 Making Choices books, and a series of six fantasy books, The Exitorn Adventures. She was a member of University Presbyterian Church where she taught in the Sunday School for many years, served as a deacon, and wrote articles for their paper, UPC Times. She was a member of Seattle Free Lances, the National League of American Pen Women, and the Northwest Christian Writers' Association. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, November 16th at Kings Chapel at Crista, 19303 Fremont Avenue North, Shoreline.

Remembrances may be made to University Presbyterian Church or Seattle Pacific University.

I just wanted to add my sincere condolences especially to Bob, whom I respected and enjoyed working with for a long time at the Edmonds School District. I think I met Peggy only once, but I know how much you appreciated and loved her.
