Maria (deSouza) daPonte, age 81 of Taunton, passed away at her home on September 14, 2025, with her loving family by her side.

She was the beloved wife of the late Jose daPonte.

Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Maria was the daughter of the late Manuel Souza and Serafina (daSilva) deSouza.

Before retiring, Mrs. daPonte was employed at the former Walkover Shoe Company in Bridgewater, MA. Maria enjoyed gardening and baking and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Maria is survived by her daughter, Caroline daPonte- Weichel and her fiancé Joseph P. LaPalme, and her son, Louis daPonte and wife Jennifer. She is the grandmother to Jeffrey A. Weichel, Jr., Rebecca Anne Weichel, Jacob Louis daPonte and Sarah Marie daPonte, and also the great-grandmother of Ryder James Weichel. Maria was also the sister of Manuel deSouza and his wife Susan. Maria is also survived by an aunt and uncle and several cousins.

Mrs. daPonte’s funeral with visitation will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 8 am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in Saint Anthony Church School Street, Taunton.

Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
