Mary May Obituary
Mary was born October 11, 1916, in Circleville, Ohio, to Leslie Donald May and Mary Ashbrook May. She lived with her parents and older brother Donald on a family farm until they moved to the corner of Franklin and Washington Streets in 1924. She lived there until she moved to Columbus, Indiana in 2010.
A 1938 graduate of The Ohio State University, Mary loyally supported the university for her entire life. She was an active member of Sigma Kappa Sorority.
Mary's teaching career began at the Franklin Street School in Circleville, Ohio. She then taught in the Columbus, Ohio public schools for 46 years and incorporated her love of geography in many classroom activities.
Mary was a life-long member of the Circleville Presbyterian Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She loved traveling, playing her saxophone, attending the Circleville Pumpkin Show and talking to anyone she met.
Mary is survived by her nieces, Mary (George) Hallenbeck of Burr Ridge, Illinois and Elizabeth (David) Clark of Columbus, Indiana; great-nieces and great-nephews, Sue (Charles) Tifford, George (Katy) Hallenbeck, Brian (Allison) Clark and Karen (Michael) Wendowski; 9 great-great nieces and nephews; and cousins, Ada Burke and Harriet Krumpelman. Her parents and brother preceded her in death.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:45 a.m., Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Forest Cemetery in Circleville with Pastor Anne Solovey Marshall officiating. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 151 E. Main St., Circleville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Church, 134 E. Mound St., Circleville, OH 43113 or to the Pickaway Co. Historical Society, PO Box 85, Circleville.
