MATTHEW MOORE Obituary

MOORE MATTHEW MOORE On September 18, 2013, Matthew (Matt) Moore, of Springfield, Virginia, died in a tragic accident at Colorado National Monument Park. Born in Monterey, California, on 21 January 1986, Matthew was the son of Jonathan and Suzan Moore and the brother of Chelsea. Never say never was Matt's motto and he lived every day to the fullest. Always happy and positive with a smile that was infectious, he accomplished much in his short life including obtaining Eagle Scout, swimming on Victor's and Hunt Valley swim teams, earning a high school diploma, completing 12 years of CCD at Nativity Church, being a member of the STRIVE group, and belonging to the Knights of Columbus. Matt was a dedicated worker beginning with employment experiences orchestrated by Barb Henrie and the team at the Pulley Center, with an assignment at Reagan National Airport, where he worked in the Chief of Police's office. For the last four years, he was a file clerk for the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI) Branch of the US Treasury Department. He was a fine example of a person who exceeded expectations through hard work and sheer enjoyment. Thank you to all of his doctors, therapists, volunteers, co-workers, friends, and family who accepted Matt for who he was and made these accomplishments happen. Visitation will be held on September 25, 2013 from 5 pm to 9 pm at Demaine Funeral Home - Springfield, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on September 26, 2013, at Nativity Catholic Church, 6400 Nativity Lane, Burke, VA 22015. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pulley Career Center, 6500 Quander Road, Alexandria, VA 22307 (memo: Matt Moore fund for independent traveling/independent living skills) or Nativity Catholic Church, 6400 Nativity Lane, Burke, VA 22015 (memo: Food for the Poor).

My heart and prayers go out to Matt and his family. Matt and I knew each other from High School we also met a few times before that in middle school. Matt always had a heart of gold. He was a great friend and I'm glad to have had someone like him as friend. I will always remember the goofy times we had in school. You are gone now but never forgotten. Thank you being my friend. Love and Peace!

Dear Moore Family-I remember Matt when he was young and what a wonderful zest for life he had. He overcame many challenges through the love and support of his family and extended community. Matt was a shining example of Christ's love to those around him. His genuine smile and caring example touched everyone in his world. He made the world a better place and I think God said " a job well done" when Matt arrived in heaven. May you all feel God's loving arms around you as you grieve.

To the Moore Family:

With things cooling down a bit and seasons changing, I have a lot of time to reflect. I am truly sad and sorry that we lost Matt; he was such an inspiration and a light; his smile, his laughter just his character overall, He would always call out Hi Lynetta! I will surely miss him and I am missing him as each day passes. He left a big void. May God Bless you and keep you. Continue to hold to the fact that you will See Matt again. I know there is a special place in Heaven for him. He is a kind and wonderful person. Lynetta Stevens, Ft. Washington MD

To the Moore Family -- I didn't know Matt long (as I only started working at the CDFI Fund in November 2012), but from the first day that we were introduced, Matt would say "Good Morning Beverly". I don't know where he got that name from, but once I told him my correct name -- he felt really bad and apologized for calling me by another name -- afterwards, whenever he saw me, he never got it wrong again -- "Hi Karen" he would say and I would say "Hey Matt". If we met in the kitchen, he shared with me his hiking trips or upcoming ventures that he was excited about going on with his friends and/or family members. I just returned from a vacation and truly feel a void without his presence and "Morning shout-outs".

May the Lord continue to give you solace in his abence, but truly know that he is with his Lord and Savior -- for to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord --

I just learned last night about Matt's untimely and tragic passing. You have my deepest condolences and sympathy.

I work at Dr. Nsouli's office and saw Matt every Wednesday. I could set my watch by his arrival and looked for him if he was a little late! His smile always made everyone smile. His joy for life was evident even during a short 1/2 hour visit. He knew all our names and made sure to greet everyone. I will truly miss seeing this wonderful young man, but his smile will live in on in my heart forever.

My Deepest thoughts & condolences are with you & your entire family . I didn't know Matt Moore personally or friends with him but I'm friends with his teacher Richard Stone from NVCC . I myself lost my brother back in 2006 from a car accident so I know what you & your family are going through now loosing a son , brother , grandson , nephew etc . By the pictures it seems to me he was a fun nice likable loving person & full of life . Its a tragedy loosing a person so young & how the tragedy occurred but I'm sure him being all of your guardian angels now he most likely is saying I'm alright everyone & watching over you all and protecting everyone now . Probably even having a great poker game going on with my brother . The healing process or pain will never go away but share stories about him & keep his memory alive & his close friends & family with you always that helps a lot with the healing . Jennifer Fadness

I remember looking up to Matt growing up in Troop 1140. He was always so optimistic and fun to be around. For some reason I specifically remember him loving the song "First Date" by Blink 182. I miss Matt. I am sad and my heart is broken.

I worked with Matt at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Matt took his job serious, and he knew that his job was an important one.

I recall the daily and multiple emails I used to receive from him, asking me if he could assist me in any way. He was always willing and wanted to do a good job. He always did an excellent job assisting. He'd always come back and ask, "Did I do it right?" And I'd always say, "You did an excellent job, thank you Matt."

During the course of the day, at work, no matter how many times I'd see Matt, he'd always say, "Hi Chris." Even if he was just passing my cubicle and we did not see each other he'd always say, "Hi Chris." And I'd say, "Hi Matt." I miss his voice.

In December 2011, I took a picture of Matt while he was standing near my office. I'm glad I did. Since his untimely death, I have looked at his picture numerous times. For generations to come, it will be a part of my picture collection, which includes my family and friends.

I will always remember Matt in a loving and special way.

I have so much to say about Matt 007 Moore.
We have had many great memories in these last 12+ years that we have known Matt "Bond".
Matt has left his mark on everyones' Heart who he has ever met or came close too in his life. Matt like James bond loved his ladies. He did what ever it took to help those who needed his help.
It was always great meeting Matt after the 11:00 mass at Nativity. I'm glad I introduced him in to the Knights of Columbus. Now Matt is a Knight for God himself, keeping the Angels like himself in line. I can go on for ever about the positives of Matt Moore and will write his poem.
All of our Blessings in Gods name.

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Matt's family. I'm SO sorry for your loss.

Matt was one of the most inspirational people I had the privilege to call a friend. I feel extremely fortunate to have known Matt for over 4 years. His endless energy, bright smile, and his upbeat personality always made my day better. I loved how Matt would warmly greet everyone throughout the day as if he were meeting them for the first time. "Hi Ty" he would energetically say every time he passed my desk every 5 minutes...and how excited Matt would be about going out for a happy hour. He always wanted to make sure that everyone was invited so no one would feel left out.

What I will remember the most about Matt is how well he treated everyone and how he lived each day to the fullest. His passion for life and his genuine love of others are some of the things I will treasure the most about Matt.

Matt - thank you for teaching me how to be a more loving, caring, generous, and a kinder person. Your love for life rubbed off on everyone around you, and you will be genuinely missed.

I have two pictures of Matt. One that his mother Sue gave me of Matt's graduation and he has his arms around Bessie and me, and the other is at an awards ceremony at the Pulley Center, and he also has his arms around Bessie and me. He was in the Pulley Ctr. program and he worked here at MWAA at Reagan National for the Police Dept. HQ for about a year, as my student assistant. He was a comfort and joy then and he's a comfort and joy to me now as I look at these pictures each day and feel the unconditional eternal love from his arms around me. He'll be missed, but we'll forever be connected here on earth as we shall be in heaven one day. Hugs, Encouragement, Love, Prayers (HELP) to Sue, his father, Jon and his sister, Chelsea.

I can't express how shocked and saddened I am to hear of the loss of Matt. It was my role to teach Matt skills and lessons that he could carry forward in his career, however, in reality he was the teacher. His attitude and personality were unbelievable. How could I possibly complain about the annoyances of life when Matt was always so upbeat and energetic. Dear Jon, Sue and Chelsea, Words cannot express my sorrow over Matthew's passing. To say that Matt was special is such an understatement. This man brought so much joy and laughter to all those around him. He treated everyone with love and respect. He was always looking out for everyone else's happiness. Once you met Matthew, you became his friend for life, even if not always deserved. He had more patience and tolerance than most people I know. I have been truly blessed to have had Matt Moore in my life. Love to you three, Debbie (Matt's surrogate Mom!)

Though Matt's time on earth lasted a mere 27 years; his memory will be with me for a lifetime.

Matt stimulated energies, ideals and reverence in others. He was a leader who inspired by example. Yes you can be a gentle, thoughtful, compassionate kind leader.

As I sit and reflect on the many memories I have of Matt there are two I would like to share.

At times I would find myself lost in thought, worried, tired, and simply beat due to a stressful day. Then I'd see Matt walking his beloved dog Molly or the Moore's more recent addition to their family Maggie. I could always count on a bright smile from Matt, a hug and a brief chat about his day. Not to mention an update on the Redskins (pre or post season).

Matt's graduation - what a site! You should have witnessed the looks from his classmates when they saw Matt's entourage consisting of five beautiful young women (the Galgate Girls) in the front row all cheering for Matt. Not to mention his proud neighbors, friends….and of course parents.

What a journey Matt! Have a great time in heaven!

Words cannot express my sorrow for you. My fondest memories are of swim team years and watching and hearing EVERYONE cheer, "Go Matt!" May his memory be eternal. Joanne, Christina and Bobby Johnson

Matt, knowing you has given me a treasure trove of good memories which are my keepsakes. While you are no longer in our daily keeping you will live forever in my heart. Goodnight sweet boy, may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

I am so lost. I have lost my best friend and a brother. We did everything together and now that won't be possible. I cherish each and every moment that we spent together and will always remember and celebrate the good times and the laughs we shared. Sue , John , and Chelsea I can't imagine what you 3 are going through but know my thoughts and prayers are with you. Love you Matt you are now one of gods angels.
