Nancy Shanklin Obituary
Memphis, TN
Nancy Estelle Shobe Shanklin, 89, passed away on June 2, 2018. She was a member of the Church of Christ at White Station for 60 years. After retiring from the University of Memphis as Director of Chemical Laboratories at age 70, Nancy enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, caring for babies in the church nursery and being involved in many activities at her church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Bera Shobe, brother, Jere (Minta) Shobe, husband, Dr. J.C. Shanklin, and son, Gregory Shanklin. Nancy is survived by her brother, Calvin (Methel) Shobe; her daughter, Laura (Mark) Kleiman; daughter, Carole Shanklin; son, David Shanklin, and son, Paul (Angie) Shanklin. Nancy leaves behind nine grandchildren: Chris (Rebecca Wilson) Shanklin, Shawn (Kristy) Shanklin, Elizabeth (Dane) Mull, Merri (Stephen) Hackett, Witt Allen, Neil (Sarah) Allen, Molli Kleiman, Matthew and John Shanklin, and great-grandchildren Izzy and Nate Forrest, Maddie Shanklin, Josiah, Allison and Jude Hackett, Barrett Kleiman-Peterson, Waylon Kleiman-Meeks and expected great-grandchild "Baby" Allen in October 2018, as well as countless nieces, nephews and other extended family members. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Ave Maria Assisted Living for being Nancy's family these last two years. Appreciation is also expressed to Dr. Terri Alford and the staff at Methodist Medical Group, Dr. Dragutsky and staff at Gastro One, Dr. Robert Johnson and staff at The West Clinic, and the caring staff at Methodist Health Hospice Residence.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., visitation at 11 a.m., Tuesday June 5 at the Church of Christ at White Station, 1106 Colonial Road Memphis TN 38117, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that memorial gifts be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
