Mr. Brewer was a frequent caller to my parents home during the late 50's and early 60's, seeking a comment on various political topics from my father, who was a City of Memphis Commissioner.
To us, as children, this was like one of the god's calling from Mt. Olympus! "Hi Johnny, this is Norm Brewer from WMCT, is your dad home?" He knew us by our young voices.
He was always the consumate gentleman and friend. In later years he remained so.
Like his friend Bernie Mintz on here, always a true professional and the epidome of journalistic excellence.
In my humble opinion, the names Edward R. Murrow and Norman Brewer belong in the same dialogue. They led the way and opened doors for many others to easily pass. They set "the standard."
I grieve with his family, but rejoice knowing that Heaven has one of the finest reporters compiling stories at this very moment.
Not much of a comment for him, but I got my facts straight, and accurate. That's all he would have wanted, or expected.
Good Night and Good Luck, Mr. Brewer.

Norm was the consumate journalist and I was privileged to have known and worked with him during my years in local government and his years in the downtown position at the Chamber. We became friends and he later assisted our company in some marketing efforts. I always enjoyed visiting with him, sharing information and stories about affairs of our city, and eagerly awaiting each installment of his commentary. His voice may now be silent but his legacy in our community lives on.
