Paul Brocker Obituary

In Loving Memory of Paul Brocker Jr.
1/23/1925 - 6/4/2009

Paul Brocker Jr., passed away on June 4, 2009 at the age of 84. Paul was born January 23, 1925 in Utica, New York. He was raised on a farm and joined the army directly after high school during World War II. Paul married Anna Margaret Vogt in 1948 and began his career working for a major New York construction firm on projects throughout the U.S. and also in Australia, New Zealand and Germany.
Paul and Anna moved from New York to Auburn, California in 1963. Paul spent many years working as a local general contractor in Auburn. In 1973 Paul served on the City Planning Commission and in 1976 was elected to the Auburn City Council where he served as Mayor for the 1977-78 term of office. In 1979 he was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to the Contractors State Licensing Board, serving as the chairman of the licensing and enforcement commission for the state. Paul Brocker was a member of the Mountain Investors and is affiliated with the VFW, American Legion, and the Elks Lodge 1691. He was also a member of the Navy League and the Masonic Order.
Paul's lifelong love for the sport of boxing led him to open a gym in Auburn where Tony "The Tiger" Lopez trained for his world championship title. He held regular events at the shop where many people gathered to enjoy watching boxing matches.
Paul is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna and their four children: Steve Brocker and wife Kharlyn, Paul Brocker III and wife Connie, Lorrie Brocker-Bell, and Dan Brocker. Paul is also survived by his ten grandchildren and his sister Virginia Rigaud.
A memorial service will be held for Paul at Chapel of the Hills, 1331 Lincoln Way, Auburn, Calif., at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009. The reception will be held at Unity Church of Auburn, 1212 High St. Auburn, Calif., immediately following the service. The service and reception will be open to anyone who wishes to pay his respects. In lieu of gifts, please send donations to the Auburn Interfaith Food Closet, 2985 Richardson Drive, Auburn 530-885-1921

I first came to know Mr. Brocker in 1999 when he hired me to work in his office. We had many long talks over the past nearly 10 years. He would sit comfortably in his "Archie Bunker Chair", share stories and offer advice whenever I asked for it, which was quite often. It has been a pleasure to work for him and his wonderful family. Sincerely, Carol

Dear Brocker family members: My name is Rod Haack and I worked with Paul for years while he was on the Planning Commission and City Council and I was Planning Director for the City. Paul always brought a common sense approach to his deliberations and I respected that. He was involved in many aspects of the day to day City activities and he will be missed by many in the community. Sincerely Rod Haack
